Since Sylvanas had fallen asleep, Leon had made it a point to stop by Loh-Tria and check up on her once a day. Her return to the world of the waking signalled Leon's own return to his sworn duty. That was all there was to it. Or so he told himself.

Leon holstered his sidearm and stepped into the Forsaken Queen's room. He spared his charge a nod before falling back on procedure. When a quick scan of the window area turned up neither eavesdropper nor electronic bug, he dropped the blinds and pulled up a chair to sit by her. At the proper distance for a bodyguard.

He never thought he'd associate those red eyes with a sense of order and normalcy in this mad city. "Up and about, I see. Just when things were starting to get too quiet, at that." He was referring to how Econtra's mishaps had a habit of occuring just when those periods of nothing-doing reached their apex.

While Leon checked the perimeter Sylvanas began idly flipping through the entries that she had missed. Requisitions, people lamenting Persephone's departure...little else. The same things as always. "Then I will be awake for whatever inane thing happens next," she replied, bitter. After another moment staring at the screen of the communicator, where Kragok was predictably seething over the goddess' absence, she lifted her eyes to Leon's.

"Why do they not understand that when someone leaves, they return to where they are supposed to be?" she challenged. The question had been aimed at her bodyguard, but her frustration encompassed the entire miserable compound. "Why must they grieve? They have lost someone dear to them: but that person did not die -- or worse."

As though Leon would know the answer.

Leon did know, but he figured Sylv did too. After all, no matter how much of her couldn't be considered 'human' (in the metaphorical sense) anymore, she still had far more life experience than most in Econtra.

"Because for those who don't know or fail to remember those facts, a friend returning to his world is much like death. In most cases, you'll never see them again." he said. "Those who do know grieve more for the bond they once shared. It's human nature."

Blue eyes touched the once-elf's from under a thatch of dirty blonde hair. Most days, the only emotions he saw from Sylvanas were cold fury, irritation, melancholy, or dark satisfaction. It was only her occasional flash of genuine concern for others that convinced him her heart hadn't died entirely with her body.

"Not just humans..." she amended, perhaps taking him too literally. But her thoughts had flown ahead again. The Dark Ranger began to stretch in her seat, first lifting her arms, then extending her legs and flexing her feet. Finding that the lattermost did not bend well, the queen uttered a curse in Gutterspeak and pulled off her boots, exposing emaciated feet partially wrapped in cloth. She undid the bindings on her left side and touched the stiff mort flesh carefully, assessing the extent of the cold damage ( ... )
