The Church was not quite so empty as if may have first seemed, though given the ghostly silence and lack of any movement no one could be blamed for thinking it was. It was a sanctuary of unbidden shadows and solemn silence, one that had provided warmth she had so desperately needed yesterday. Rhyme was still so very new to this place, having been here only about three days. Things were still a jumbled confused mess for her, there were still many unanswered questions, but more than that she still did not understand her place here ( ... )

[OOC: Actually, I was leaving it open to wherever anyone wanted to interact with him. I probably should have clarified that. But this is great, really. <3]Religion had never been a big factor in his life. Having grown up where he had, the only exposure he had had to it was as nameless holidays and as a disinterested school subject. Still, the compound's church had become a kind of symbol to him. It had been where he was reunited with Juudai, after all. At that time he had been exhausted, confused, and lost. Though he had only a few more answers now than he had then, he was in a much more coherent state and could act as though nothing in the world had changed---nothing. Not even the one thing had had come, to a great extent, to define him ( ... )

Rhyme's eyebrows drew together as somewhere in the back of her mind, she picked up the sound of Johan's voice. His words seemed so distant, but the feeling of his hand on her shoulder continued to slowly break her foggy consciousness as she began to come to.

Hers fluttered open and after a couple seconds focused on Johan, and then she gave a small start when she was finally awake enough.

"Oh! Uh." she wasn't sure if he belonged to the church or ran it in some way. When she had come in she had searched to ask if it would be okay if she could stay but had been unable to find anyone, and so had taken the risk. Now she was a little embarrassed to be seen in such a condition.

"Sorry, I just wanted to get away from the cold and I suppose I drifted off."

Watching her wake was an experience for him, planting within him a small relief that fully blossomed when her eyes finally opened. He smiled widely, an expression that had given him a sort of unspoke fame back home. Patting her shoulder once, he removed his hand and settled it in his lap.

"It's all right," he said, one eyebrow curving with amusement. It had not occurred to him that she might have thought he was someway affiliated with the church building. Frankly, he had not seen or meet anyone around who had not been forced to that place from their own world. Aside from those hateful orbs gleaming in the sky above, everyone seemed to be here for any service other than war.

"I mean, I'm sure that nobody cares that you slept here," he continued with a shake of his head. "But you probably shouldn't have. Even if it's inside, it's still pretty cold. Don't you have a housing assignment?"

Yugi had felt more relaxed the past couple of days upon regaining his lost items. Not to mention energetic. Which is why he decided to take a walk in the snow. Upon seeing the compound covered, thing didn't seem quite as...uncertain as they had been with the Keepers around. It was a peaceful sort of stillness.

He was passing near the church when someone was coming out, pausing for a moment. Did he know...? "Ah, that's right." Yugi murmured and smiled, walking over to Johan. "Hey, Johan-san."

When Johan heard his name called he looked up and around him for the caller, his eye quickly caught by the colourful appearance of the other boy which stood out so vividly from the ubiquitous gloom of muted colours. He paused for a moment, not quite able to believe he was seeing who he thought he was. Even if a younger version...he was in the presence of the King of Games.

"Mutou Yuugi?" he asked as he was approached, both incredulous and excited. "It's really you, huh? Oh...you know my name? ...Uh, you must have known me when I was here before."

He rubbed the back of his head and grinned sheepishly.

Yugi paused for a moment at the confusion on the others face. It really was hard to keep track who was here or there and which one was which at time. "I did get to meet a version of you before. It was several months ago and it was only once." Yugi said and offered his hand. "But it's nice to meet you again." He should at least be polite since this was one he hadn't 'met' before.

Johan did not hesitate to extend his own hand to shake Yuugi's vigorously. With a vivacious grin he began, "Eh, sorry. I don't remember. But how cool, that I get to meet you again!" He smiled wider, realising Yuugi's hand.

For a moment he paused, taking in the full appearance of the other. He wondered how old he could have been. Sixteen, seventeen? Maybe eighteen. "Mm. It's nice to 'met' you, Yuugi. Heh, what are the chances of meeting someone like yourself here? I had no idea there were celebrities from home here."

There was a more than definite oddness to almost everything that surrounded him -- almost as if every object, idea, thought or perception held two sides to it, one clearly visible and the other obscured by flowing shadows. Some part of Judai knew quite well that there was an inherent imbalance to such a thing, a wrongness whose cause he couldn't quite put his finger on, no matter how much he might have attempted to do so.

The fact of the matter, however, remained the same, despite all efforts to somehow change it -- confusion ruled his entire world, since effects and consequences were still recalled with some amount of clarity, while their causes appeared to have completely disappeared from the face of the earth, with no sign left of their existence, save for the occurrences and events that they had led to in the first place. Any individual would have been baffled, if faced with such a situation -- and Judai was more so than most, given that many of his beliefs had been based upon lessons learned at specific points in time, ones ( ... )

With his duel disk restored to him, Johan really had thought that things would finally be looking up, if only a little. The thought of having a solid vestige of his home back in his hands had energised him and dispelled much of the negative overcast that swelled on the rim of his thought. He had not really realised as much; he was just aware that said item had made him comfortable ( ... )

Over the last few days, as more and more familiar shapes had revealed themselves to Judai, in quick succession, the boy had started to make some semblance of sense out of everything that surrounded him -- sorting the memories that he could still recall, in order to precisely know what periods of his existence had been so suddenly and efficiently suppressed, leaving behind only gaping holes in their wake, silent, colorless voids where vivid recollections had once existed ( ... )

There were certain things, too, that had become ingrained in Johan over time. But so far, at least, none of them had been negative or unwholesome in any way. Rather, the bonds that he shared with his family and friends had become as much a part of him as his name. They were, in a sense, just as salient and defining feature as his celadon-coloured hair or his clear, glass-cut eyes. Other things had been impressed upon him just as deeply, such as his determination to go out into the world and touch people. But never had unbridled hatred been one of the things there ( ... )
