This was Dor-Enas. Robin slipped inside the door as unobtrusively as he could. Econtra's population of 'crazies' weren't dumb -- they must know that people would be making plans to deal with them. No sense in advertising their gathering.

He nodded to the gathered people -- some he recognised, some he didn't. "Am I late?"

Jing had made his way to the top floor of his apartment building, only to find that some of Fayt's team were already present. He knew them all (so far) by recognition but of them, only knew Robin directly. He nodded at them and sought a piece of wall near Fayt to lean against while he waited for the rest of the group to arrive.

I never tried to get to know more people, he realized. I always thought I had more time to... even when people kept disappearing, I always pushed it off until tomorrow. Being here for so long has made me forget what it's like to only stay in a place for a few days and to take in everything about that place because of it. I didn't even know that person...

The one that the Keepers had mercilessly killed in front of them all for trying to escape the walls. Jing's stomach clenched at the remembrance. That was why they had to keep things under control and they had to start immediately, because one person's thoughtless actions could put other people in harm's way.

When the introductions and the pleasantries were over and done with, Fayt cleared his throat and stood up. "Thank you all for coming." He smiled a little. "Listen. I have no intention of taking control here, or undermining anyone's authority. Let's just say that I took the initiative of calling for this meeting, after Jing and I had the opportunity to discuss the situation at hand. From here on, however, we'll have to act as a team."

He paused for a moment, uncertain of how to continue. He really didn't want to come out as arrogant, taking charge like this. "Right. Let's get this underway." He took a deep breath. "I believe one of the issues we have to address as soon as possible is this." He held up his hand, where his cuff used to be. "With the cuffs gone, we're at risk not only because of the Keepers, but also because of the other residents who are up to no good."

Jing knew exactly how Fayt felt about being put into a position of authority and leadership against their wishes. But he listened attentively, taking in the information and nodding. "Part of the issue is that we also don't know who COULD be a threat, let alone who is. We've been complacent up until now because it doesn't matter what they could possibly do... we only bothered with what they could do under the restriction of the cuffs. Suddenly everything we know about our friends and enemies is a very small scope. We never had the whole picture since we never needed it."
He paused, letting all his words sink in. Some of the easy-going nature he typically displayed was missing; as much as he denied it, he did have leadership qualities. "So at least we have the right group of people here for this. We need to find out what people are physically capable of, whether they want to share it or not. Even if they're our friends, even if we think they're good people." He took a deep breath. "Everybody, so I might as well go first."

Maria was quiet, but not for long. Unlike Jing and Fayt, she had no problem about being put into a position of authority and leadership; on the contrary, she felt the need to be in such a position, to be in control. Even if she had only been in Econtra for a short span of time and didn't know a lot of people, other than Fayt, Albel, her roommate Relena, and some others she'd spoken to over the communicator, like Gaz and Jing. "A good plan, but I don't think we have the time to inventory everyone. At least, not before something happens; with the cuffs already gone, it's only a matter of time. We've already heard calls for revolution and war, as well as people being bored and looking for something 'exciting' to do now that the cuffs aren't there to stop them ( ... )

Robin nodded thoughtfully, listening to the discussion. Secrecy had been drilled into him since he'd begun his superhero career. It had been a point of contention between him and his Batman for years, but now that it was time to put it aside -- it felt strange ( ... )
