Characters: Ou Johann Krauss, Open Where: Cemetery When: Night Summary: Without anything better to do, Johann goes out wandering around on his own. Warnings: None.
Hao turned his head, gazing around the cemetery. It was certainly quite a sight in the middle of the night. With the chilling wind, the stoic gravestones, and the absolute silence...it fit the mood of the perfect horror movie.
And, to many, the shaman was the horror movie
( ... )
Johann would react to Hao before he even heard the boy call out to him. Immediately a set of powerful mind shields covered his thoughts and emotions from outside probing. He was used to being with Quatre and leaving himself open, and in his own world it was an assent rather than hindrance as well considering the rarity of the gift, but he was still rather vulnerable and he hated being caught off guard.
It gave him pause also that the person calling out to him seemed perfectly aware, and perfectly fine, with what he was. He turned around slowly and gazed at the boy. Indeed, he was unusually dressed. But considering his own attire, the boy's really wasn't that bad. At least it looked more comfortable.
It also looked slightly ritualistic, and Johann knew many a thing about such topics.
He gave a low nod, half a bow in fact. Although he did not like what was implied within the boy's statements, he would ignore them for now. "Hello, mein Freund."
With Johann's thoughts and emotions thickly blocked, Hao felt both impressed and glad. It was such a nuisance to be perceiving someone's emotions for nearly every second of the day. A relief from that was always comforting.
"So what is your name?" he inquired, pleasantly, as he began to stride over to the suited individual. "I am Hao Asakura." He sent the spirit another smile, one of warmth and cheerfulness.
Johann relaxed ever-so-slightly as the boy remained pleasant, calm, and friendly but his previous words still rang through his mind so it was not complete. Then again, Johann was always uptight.
He gave another almost-bow as he introduced himself. "Johann Krauss," he said with an air. "It is my pleasure, Asakura-san."
He was well-versed in etiquette. Even, and especially, foreign etiquette.
Uryuu wasn't one to be out late usually. He tried to live an orderly life and that more often than not called for him to have the normal sleep pattern of a 16 year old. You didn't keep your grades at the top of your class by staying up all night.
But something was different, he could sense it. It wasn't what his reiatsu sensing abilities usually picked up but it was recognizable to him a supernatural and moving in the cemetery. A ghost maybe? Where there Pluses or Hollows in Econtra? Surely he would have sensed them long ago.
Intrigued he picked his way through the cemetery, pushing the various traces of the dead away from the forefront of his mind and focusing on the unique signal he was getting. He pushed up his glasses in confusion when all he saw was what appeared to be a man in some kind of suit...or was it?
Not the best at social interaction, but curiosity getting the better of him, Uryuu called out to the figure. "E-excuse me? Um...can I ask you a question?"
Johann paused and turned around slowly at the the sound of the voice. Since there was no one else in the near vicinity, he thought it was safe to assume the person was talking to him. He glanced over the young man briefly before giving a small almost bow of a nod.
"Ja, go ahead, mein Freund," he answered with a light, jovial tone. It was impossible to tell, but the swirling pattern of the mist within the helmet indicated a slight smile.
The question Uryuu had in mind wasn't a rude one per say but it was certainly an odd one and the socially awkward boy had a bit of trouble getting it out.
"Oh, you speak German? No, wait that wasn't the question! Are...are you, um...what I mean to say is you're not..." He paused to take a breath. "I don't mean to be forward but are you...human?"
Johann chuckled at the boy's awkwardness. He didn't mean to make light of the situation, or possibly hurt the boy's feelings, but he couldn't help himself. It was quaint.
And it reminded him an awful lot of Quatre.
"Ja, I am an Austrian. I speak German," he replied happily. Then he asked a question of his own. "By what definition do you mean 'human'?" The mist continued to swirl about in an excited fashion in his continued amusement of the situation.
It wasn't a 'patrol,' exactly. He'd gone on patrols back home in Amity Park, of course, but those were for ghosts. Here, the bad guys were a little harder to spot and there were a lot of other good guys also keeping an eye out. In a weird way, he felt kind of extra, beyond the fact that there was another version of him and a clone of him around. Extra as a hero
( ... )
It was an odd feeling, and one that Johann ignored for as long as he could manage, but eventually he grew curious. He turned around slowly in a full circle before finally glancing up. His helmeted head tilted slightly to the side as he gazed at the boy floating there.
"Hallo, mein Freund," the Austrian spirit said. He most definitely recognized the odd feeling coming off of the boy as something paranormal. Something a bit, almost, of his own kind.
What was that suit for? Was it some kind of battle gear? It didn't seem like it... Danny floated a little closer, feeling embarrassed at having not spoken up before. His ghostly tail flickered a little.
"Um, hi!" Was that German? He thought he got the idea, but he hoped the other man, or ghost, or whoever, would speak English. "Sorry for being nosy, just... Are you a ghost?" Danny had met people here who called themselves spirits, and people who claimed to have died, but this was the closest to someone who felt like the ghosts back home.
"I prefer spirit, but, yes, you have the right idea," he answered in, more or less, perfect English. The accent was obvious though. He also definitely did not seem upset with the question at all. "I am an ectoplasmic being now."
'Now' as opposed to 'when' exactly, not being forthcoming. But it might have been a way of implying that, obviously, at some point in time he wasn't. So yes: a ghost. Of sorts.
