Characters: AU! Willow Rosenberg Where: The fountain When: The night of Willow's return Summary: Willow gets dressed then leaves Ast-Tria, heading out at nearly 11:30 at night. Warnings: None yet.
Willow heard the familiar, happy tone of her friend Tohru and she lifted her head, forcing a smile and small wave. "Hey there, Tohru." She cleared her throat, continuing to smile.
"Oh, not a lot. Just felt like going for a walk, felt like sitting down. Think there was a rock in my shoe. Got it out," Willow said. Little white lie never hurt anybody. Didn't feel like saying that her worrywort-ness was getting to her and she was afraid of seeing Layla with another person.
Willow breathed a small, humorless chuckle and chewed at her bottom lip. "Yeah, well, I don't think it'd matter where I was, still go this big old brain of mine, whirring away. I tend to worry, a lot," Willow nodded then lifted her hand to her hair, running through her auburn locks.
"I just...." Willow sighed softly, looking down at the toes of her sneakers. "I'm concerned that with the amount of time I've been gone, that a thousand different things may have changed for me, all for the worst."
Layla was pretty wary about being out at night, especially since the nights were getting longer and colder. Her flip flops didn't protect her toes much either, so the red headed girl was very much in a hurry back to her apartment.
Arms wrapped around her chest and head directed towards her building, Layla didn't notice anyone about her. She hadn't felt much like socializing lately either, not since Willow had vanished. Getting the school open and ready for students was turning into a great project to keep her occupied -for now-. There was a familiar red head of hair ahead of her, but it couldn't be. Layla didn't want to overstoke the flames of hope that it was in fact Willow. "Even if it is Willow, she's probably from another time." Layla kept on her path, walking a little faster so she could pass the girl and get over the feelings she still had inside.
Willow hadn't moved from the fountain, staring out at the ground in front of her feet, her head down. Tohru's words had lifted her spirits some, but her overall anxiety did terrible wonders for her, causing her to worry, be concerned for her and Layla, and, just for the heck of it, worry some more.
She thought back to when Layla had reverted back from being a honeysuckle. How relieved she was, how overjoyed at being able to hug Layla. And, goddess, how sweet she tasted when she kissed her. Willow prayed that she'd get to taste her again.
Curiosity won over. No matter what world Willow was from, no matter what time, she wanted to see her. With Layla's luck with relationships though, she had reservations that it was even Willow at all.
Layla stopped just a few feet from the fountain's rim and she edged her way along the girl's blind spot. She could just peek and see. That was a good idea after all. The closer she got, the more she felt a funny sensation in her tummy: nerves.
She faintly heard footsteps, figuring it was just some person, walking to a late-night booty call or heading home from one. She dismissed it as nothing and her fingers continued fidgiting in her lap and she sighed, lifting one to tuck a lock of hair behind her ear.
Then she froze, a familiar scent on the wind catching her attention. Her mind raced, trying to recall what the smell was. Sweet, earthy...a flower of some kind. Goddess. It was honeysuckle.
Willow lifted her head, looking left then right, her green eyes widening as her breath caught in her throat. Time seemed to seize up, refusing to move forward. So filled with joy, fear, and anxiety, she couldn't even say the girl she felt so strongly for's name.
