The crocodile had decided he hadn't actually tried to find something new to do in quite a long time. So, after a morning swim, Vector decided it was high time for him to go find a book to read, as he hadn't actually done that since he got dragged into Econtra. A white towel was wrapped around his waist to stop him from dripping water everywhere, and his gloves had been pulled back on to stop himself from getting water on the books. Aside from the towel, it was obvious he had just gotten out of the sun, and the water ( ... )

The crocodile would have been easy enough to ignore if it hadn't been for the towel. It looked ridiculous on him and why he hadn't bothered to dry himself off before coming inside to a library, full of things that could be ruined with water, she didn't know. But for once, she wasn't going to try to start something. At least, not immediately.

As she turned to place another book on her pile, she faced him briefly and commented, "I didn't know you read." Which was the truth, since she never took him as the type to be patient enough to want to sit through a novel. It didn't surprise her that he had picked that genre to read, though, he probably got inspiration that at least someone could make a living off of being a detective, even if that 'someone' was fictional.

Ugh, she spoke. So much for ignoring her.

The crocodile let his arm fall across his chest over the other, one large finger laying between the pages to keep his place before he looked over at Rouge. "Yeah, a little," he responded, with a small shrug, eying her pile again. "It's somethin' to do besides layin' around when you've got downtime." Which, of course, he had plenty of back at the Agency. As much as Vector hated to acknowledge the fact that he'd never really gotten any work, he had to be honest in this situation.

He wanted to ask her about her leg and her neck, since she was out and about again, but decided that probably wasn't the best idea. So instead, he took another route. "...you read anythin' besides romance novels?"

Rouge thumbed through a book, pretending her focus was on other things entirely. "Occasionally. I just don't feel like it right now. You only read mystery novels?"

It was a little shocking to her that at least for now, they seemed to be having something that resembled a civilized conversation. She wondered how long it would last before one of them made a snide remark.

So 'that' was Rouge... She really 'was' a bat! Impressed and curious Soma hung upside down and watched her from a bit of a distance. He wasn't interested in distracting her, just in seeing how unique the different forms of evolution came about.

((OOC: Soma is a human torso'd sized white bat, feel free to notice him Rouge!))

Out of the corner of her eye, she couldn't help but notice that there was something watching her. Ignoring her selection of books in favor of this newcomer, Rouge turned to face him, raising an eyebrow at him. There were strange people at Econtra, she knew, but it was the first time she had seen another that looked bat-like.

Not that it made much of a difference, since she was appreciative of anyone watching her, bat or not. "What do you think you're doing?"

Soma looked left and right, maybe she was addressing someone else? Then again he was so freaking BLINDINGLY WHITE.... he stuck out like a sore thumb anywhere save a snow bank. He unfurled his wings and dropped catching himself, righting himself, then changing back.

"Ahh well I was flying around and saw a very lovely white lady bat walk in. Thought it had to be... Rouge?" He replied trying to sound casual.

...Well. If the stalker was going to go around, complimenting her looks, she supposed she could manage being social. Ever since Kir had vanished, she hadn't been receiving as much praise as she used to and she wouldn't turn down a reminder that she wasn't losing her touch.

Ignoring his sudden change in appearance, she flashed him a smile laced with fangs. "The one and only~ Have we spoken before?"

Baltha had decided, after all she'd heard about it, that it was high time she read up on this whole "space travel" thing. It had turned out to be rough going; Baltha was fairly bright, but there were concepts involved that she'd never considered. And many of the ones that she had still gave her trouble - it had been a long time since Akademy back in Archades.

She happened to notice a familiar face hovering around the romance section. Somehow, she wasn't surprised. "Hello, Rouge."

"Baltha." The bat gave the woman a nod in greeting, momentarily distracted from the book she had been flipping through. "Bored as well?"

Rouge couldn't recall the last time she had seen her friend in person, but that could easily be tagged down to her recent mood. Thankfully, that would be changing now, since she didn't want to lose contact with one of the few friends that still remained in this place.

"Afraid so." Baltha looked away from her own book gratefully; she was just about ready to give up on it in any case. "Taking the better part of valor does tend to get dull."

The viera didn't intend to refer to the recent events any more than that. It wasn't something she really wanted to discuss, except maybe for the amusing incident with the tomatoes.

"Agreed. I'm guessing things have been going badly for you, too?" Rouge had the same intention. The least she had to say about what had gone on recently, the better, but that didn't mean she wasn't looking for someone she could mutually complain about it with. Albeit, she'd keep it vague.

Espio was one who was very much prone to flitting from interest to interest, and today he was investigating the library's non-fiction. Plucking random books out on random subjects, quickly flicking through, putting them back and moving on to others. After a while, he noticed the bat on the other side of the room, and recognised her instantly as being a "Mobian" - a term he would always mentally enclose in quotes, being from Meridian.

And who did he know who was a bat? There was Rouge, who he had only spoken very briefly to. So, jumping to conclusions, he decided to go over there and say hi.

"Oi."

Well... not quite "hi", but as far as Espio was concerned, it was close enough.

Wonderful, first the crocodile, now his chameleon friend. Except, she knew better than to assume he was from their world. It had been obvious from just about every conversation she had seen him in over the communicators and his appearance. That didn't mean she was particularly happy to speak with him, though, especially with that kind of greeting.

"Hello," she said with a sigh. Maybe if she didn't respond with anything more he'd leave her be and go about with whatever he was looking for.

The chameleon frowned, not liking her look. Something was off - he'd never met her in person before, but he could just somehow tell. But he wasn't asking.

He picked up a book from the top of the pile, scanning over the blurb. "Romance?" he observes, before looking at the size of the pile. "...you don't have anything better to do than read through a giant stack of romance novels?" He glanced at her, with slight surprise on his face. "I didn't get that impression from you - assuming, you know, I guessed right on your identity and all."

Rouge rolled her eyes. She had heard that before. It was a little annoying how everyone made assumptions about what she read. What did they expect, her to read nothing but spy novels?

"Nothing better to do right now, no." His last statement caught her attention. She couldn't imagine there'd be many others she could be mistaken for. "If you think I'm Rouge, then you're correct."

Maria had been spending a fair amount of time in the library herself, lately, reading up on mechanics in her spare time. But every now and then she needed something a little lighter to read. She'd gone through the stack of science fiction that Shadow had acquired, and had enjoyed a few of them well enough, but none of them really stood out as the sort of novels she would normally pick up on her own ( ... )

It wasn't that surprising that Maria happened to be in the area, considering all the times Rouge had seen her working on various projects. This was the kind of place she'd expect to see the girl frequently.

"Romance. It's nice seeing you here," she greeted while handing her one of the more kid-friendly books in the section. Rouge gave her a smile, genuinely happy to see her even if she reminded the bat of the very person she was trying to ignore at the moment. It wasn't Maria's fault that there was tension between her and Shadow and she wouldn't rush off and leave the girl alone because of it.

"Oh- oh, thank you," she commented, taking the book with a light laugh. She'd honestly never read a romance novel before, but she wasn't wandering around here just to turn down something new. Quite the opposite, really.

Rouge had found that awfully quickly. Reading the back cover, she supposed it sounded interesting enough, so she held on to it.

"Have you read this one before?"

"Once, a while ago. It wasn't my kind of story, but you might enjoy it." From what she could remember, it was a bit fairy taleish, which had been an instant turn-off as far as her interest in it went. But if Maria was going to try reading from this section, it was better that Rouge pointed something out than leaving the poor girl to stumble on something that would fluster her.
