Enjoy your walk, Terra had said as Ven left the apartment they shared. Enjoy your walk but I won’t risk losing you again. Not now. Not with the compound being so fickle, taking cherished friends and replacing them with strangers. The knight watched as Ven walked out the door and for a moment he stayed very still. He waited until the footsteps heading down the hall faded before he moved over to his bed and reached under it, pulling out the dark red cloak he had stored there. Axel had struck out to go find him the first time he had done something like this, and after his talk with Nocturne, he shouldn't have been surprised that someone had taken to following him. He should have expected at least to have gotten a message from Terra, reminding him to return. It was another stupid mistake on his part.

"Get up."Pulled from his mangled thoughts and shaken out of his reverie, Ven lifted his head from his hands and looked up. "Terra?" he asked, looking both a little shocked and confused. "What are you doing out here?" He didn't bother to question the command, not at first, and slowly got to his feet, dimly realizing that he must have come out to take him back inside. And at first, he felt a little grateful for someone to bring him back to the here and now, back to Econtra, instead of a million miles away in a rainy city ( ... )

"Were you avoiding me?" Terra countered the question with one of his own. He didn’t tense up at the original accusation, though: the rage consuming his thoughts wouldn’t allow him to experience even a sliver of guilt at the moment.

He had done only what he needed to do as far as he was concerned. He was entitled to that- entitled and obligated to keep an eye on his younger friend and make sure no harm came to him. Ventus was here and he was safe. There was no other way to be sure of that but to watch over him. He wouldn’t mysteriously vanish so long as Terra was at his side. No one ever reported seeing their friends disappear right in front of them ( ... )
