Just as his queen, Jadeite was lost in thought. He had entered the apartment, and paused just short of the kitchen doorway. He observed Beryl for a brief time. She seemed distracted, troubled at times. He could tell, the slight and subtle changes in her expression; he had learned to read them when in the Dark Kingdom, she spoke very little about her emotions.
He had progressed somewhat, with learning about other people of this world, or rather, Econtra. But it seemed that right now, that was not what the woman needed.
He came closer--she had noticed him. Respectfully, he bowed at the waist. It was a step up from kneeling automatically as he was used to doing, even in casual situations. He gave her an unintentionally soft look. "It's getting late in the day, Beryl-sama," he told her. "Have you eaten?"
There was a smile for the blond shitennou as he entered, always a smile for Jadeite it seemed. Somehow he drew them from her. However, her recent conversations over the communicator she'd been studying so diligently, had suggested the time was right for their more practical endeavors.
"Jadeite," she started in immediately, ignoring his question, "We will begin soon, our plans to return energy to this planet. Are you prepared to carry them out?" Even so, even as she spoke Beryl was still looking at him, that smile not quite gone.
Jadeite bowed again at her question. "Yes ma'am," he answered her. As his gaze fell along the floor, he smiled faintly despite himself. He straightened his expression. "I am prepared to carry out your instructions, Beryl-sama. I have faith in you."
He straightened. "However, if I may suggest it, you should not pore over this so completely you forget the evening meal." Jadeite glanced towards the cupboards. "Shall I prepare us something, Beryl-sama?"
While he had never cooked for his queen in the Dark Kingdom, he wasn't unfamiliar with how to cook. Food wasn't a primary concern for them.
Evening meal? Beryl looked at Jadeite and gave what was probably the probably the closest to a guilty start and sheepish expression he'd ever seen on her face. It stopped short of truly being discomfited, but it was clear the time had indeed gotten away from her. She smoothed it into a smile. There was no need to be so formal herself, when she had been thinking she wished their interactions were more natural.
"Thank you," she told him in advance. "You are right; I would enjoy that." In the back of her mind, she wondered how the boy had come to learn how to cook. Had he spent much time in the human world? Perhaps, and perhaps he had needed to learn to fend for himself there.
In preparation for the meal, and to avoid ignoring Jadeite, Beryl put aside the communicator. It would wait a little while.
