For journalism, here you'd be a medium sized fish in a small pond. There you'll be a small fish in a huge pond. So, it'll be harder to get your foot in the door, but there will be so many more doors. (I think that's a mix metaphor, since fish don't have feet.)
It'll be easier on you and your friends if you can get married here, but it would be possible for you two to fly back later to do the wedding here. It doesn't have to be right this minute.
The other thing that bothers me is that well, I will be a *nobody* in NYC... and I fear it being *really* hard for me to do *anything*. But as you say, there will be *so* many doors.
On top of it, his parents are willing to let us live in that house for free, as long as he and I are in school.
It's true, you'll start out as a "nobody", but you'll be a student. You'll be one among many all starting out. That makes you no better and no worse than any of the other journalism students. You'll be able to take advantage of being a student to get internships and to write for the student paper and to get good support from them.
So, really, you'll have a lot more support than you would if you moved to NYC with a degree in journalism and were looking for a job right off the bat.
I'm glad to hear that the sickness isn't as bad. Hopefully you'll be fully recovered soon!
David seems to think it would be easy for me to intern in NYC for journalism. OH YEAH.
I think this is a fantastic opportunity for all of you, and once again wish you and yours nothing but the best of luck no matter what decision you make. :)
There is one major issue that you'll want to consider before you make the decision. It's very possible, and even likely that your credits from TVI will not transfer to schools in NYC. You might call a couple of the state universities and ask them to verify that.
It looks like NYU won't tell you until you're admitted, but it sounds hopeful. TVI is certainly an accredited institution, and you certainly took the credits in the last 10 years.
yeah, there really isn't any reason to think that most of her credits won't transfer - it could be that some communications courses aren't offered in NYC and might not have equivalents, but the majority of arts & sciences courses transfer to any four-year university.
when faced with really fucking hard decisions like this in life, i always try to think how lucky i am that i have a choice. this house and moving to new york is a fantastic choice that has been opened to you. whether you take it or not, big congratulations to you and enjoy the luxury of getting to decide
( ... )
I am leaning towards moving... and if this was a few years ago I would have leapt at the opportunity... but I am faced with it now... and you are right, I should be thankful to have even the choice.
I should have also added that I am excited to move and to start over and meet new people.
A couple of thoughts. One, you're hardly goin to be a "nobody". You'll be Ethan's mom and David's wife and in my (albeit unpopular opinion) that is more important than any other position you will ever occupy. Second, you're not doing it on your own. You're doing it with the little boy you adore and the man of your dreams and that will make it all that much easier (I never would have moved on my own, but having Mike by my side to tell me that he'd make it work somehow, made it so easy to do). Third, I really think life has a funny way of working itself out. I know it's TERRIBLE about David's grandmother passing but could this opportunity have come at a more perfect time?

No, we are definately leaning in the direction of moving. I am excited about it, its jsut more common for me to express my fears than my happiness.
