First with the boxset, and now these... Robert Smith is definately re-writing the book on how things should be reissued. It seems to be an even more thorogh and 'built-for-maximum' impact reissue program than even the recent series of 2cd reissues from Elvis Costello. Bowie could learn a lesson (or a dozen) from Robert.
did you pickup THREE IMAGINARY BOYS yet? i admit i was a bit disappointed with it. they issued several tracks that were just cleaned up copies of bootleg quality material on disc 2. i'm not a fan of that. bowie's done that a little bit with BEEB, and disc 2 of the deluxe ALADDIN SANE.
i am excited about these for sure, especially if the sound quality is more consistent throughout each album and bonus disc. i have the 12" for Charlotte Sometimes, and the live version of the track Faith is magnificent - way better than the studio version. i hope the other live tracks deliver as well.
As soon as I sent that reply, I really noticed that so many live tracks had been included. Unfortunately, I have not picked up the expanded 3IB yet, but it should be at the top of my list the next time I pick anything up. (Actually, I came close Saturday night when I was holding 3IB and the cd/dvd reissue of the last Morrissey album.. I ended up waiting on the Cure release because it appeared to be the new 'standard' format and not a limited thing of any kind.
It would have been too easy to just include the period b-sides and be done with it. It's interesting that they're including the Temptation demo tracks. I've heard one of them and the one I heard was just a demo for Let's Go To Bed so it's leaves me wondering what they plan on including, if they do one, for the Japanese Whispers release (which would be in the next set of releases).
the JOIN THE DOTS box included all the non A-side album tracks from JAPANESE WHISPERS already. since it was a short album to begin with, i can't imagine them issuing a two disc set of it. whatever bonus material they have for it could probably fit on a single cd with the original tracks.
that's a good point. this is just a tidy way to assemble all the pieces. i wouldn't be opposed to remastered versions of the album (cd), and if they had non album tracks/EPs/b-sides that weren't on those albums, a separate package or CD EP would be nice too. either way, if i like what they're selling, i'll buy it. my collection is living proof. i could be rich by now if it weren't for my bloody collection.
i hear ya. i've bought many a reissue and found myself disappointed, like with the 30th anniversary of ALADDIN SANE. not enough value, and they usedbootleg quality recordings on a couple of disc 2s live tracks.

If these albums were originally released as double albums with all the demos and live tracks, they wouldn't be the classics that they are!
But I guess if people buy them then it's all ok.

I'm just perpetually disappointed with 'bonuses', and the way that it's kind of targeted at the general public isn't great.
