Feels like the first time ...

It’s been a while since I blogged here at The Eclectic Six, I’ve had a lot going on and not a lot of time to ruminate about music as of late, but today something hit me. This something is something that has been apparent to me for a long time but just has not come to the surface as noteworthy until now.

No, I don't think you are weird about this, Rob. I'm in the same boat as you. I used to hate us when I was a kid, but I've come to realize that sometimes the initial frisson of a band is what attracts you to them and makes you enjoy their music. It's the discovery! And then you hear the next record. And maybe it's not so good, or maybe they decided to "expand their horizons". I will say that the first Foo Fighters record is all Grohl, all the time, and the later stuff is with a full band contributing, which could be part of why your perspective changed.

For me, the first Von Bondies record was a similar revelation. Amazing. Rough, messy, and amazing. The second record...it was like they took out all the stuff that made it amazing for me. Sad.
