With Ears To See And Eyes To Hear - Prologue

It had started when he was around fourteen. At first he thought it was just music or televisions that was on in the background, but gradually they became louder and more clear. At first it was hard to hear who's voice belonged to who, but after a few months it got easier to understand who they belonged to. It was first when he figured out whom they belonged to that he could actually hear what they were saying. Or thinking, to be correct.

At first he had been completely freaked out, thinking he probably had to go to one of those mental hospitals, because this could not be true. It just happened in science fiction movies, absolutely not in real life. It wasn't like he wanted it either. Hearing what others think of you might sound exciting or interesting to you, and yes, it was. To some extent. When they started judging him, that was the worst. When he would have completely random breakdowns because hearing all those thoughts got way too much for a kid to handle, he could hear them. Hear how they judged him for being a freak. An outsider. A loner.

When he got to around fifteen, he managed to shut them out. Not for good, but for some extent of the time, he could actually shut it off. Even if it was just ten minutes, it was better than nothing. Finally being able to some peace and quietness. It was nice.

What he didn't understand was that he couldn't hear the thoughts of those he loved. That would certainly be something though, because then it would be much easier to know what to say when he fought with his parents or sister. It didn't go further than from his parents to his grandparents, not including aunts, uncles and cousins. But he liked not knowing what they thought of him.

Other times it would be nice to read them, was like when he came out as bi to them. It would be nice to know what his father really thought of it. He knew that his dad supported him in everything he did, much like his mother, but it would still be nice. Like any other parents, they didn't think they own son would turn out to be gay, but they would get grandchildren from his sister. And he was sure that when he did find someone he loved unconditionally, that they would find a way to get their baby, and therefore his parents grandchild.

Alex didn't know if he was the only one in the world who was a mind reader, nor did he know why exactly he could do it. Alex was no one, in fact, most people at his school didn't even know his name, just his face. They probably all knew who he was, because everyone knew who the Gaskarth's was. His father being a millionaire because of his factories that made some goddamn furniture. Who could actually get rich by that? But apparently it had worked, and Alex was grateful for the fact that they had enough money to get by and more than that too.

But the point of this story is not how Peter Gaskarth became a millionaire, no. This is a story about two young boys, but I'm not quite sure if it's a happy story or not. Guess you'll find out.
