It appears the mansion at least has restored itself. I hope its people are doing all right as well.

Do I remember correctly that these events are based on one person's memories? Can anybody tell me whose memories these were?

[ Granted, the ghouls would have to be taken as a metaphor, but much of the overall setting was uncomfortably familiar to ( Read more... )

[ Shadowed room, cameras in the background, terrible haircut - yep, it's Alex, justifying his collection of tags about never contacting anyone else. ]

Sof'. Can I...

[ He's looking at her oddly, like he doesn't want to believe something. ]

...ask you something?

Dead wives? They looked like dead wives to you?! 40410 August 17 2010, 12:01:35 UTC
He told me you did, Sof'.

[ And he really doesn't like the fact that she doesn't seem to see anything wrong with it. ]

Their deaths were foretold by gyromancy! echo_of_utopia August 17 2010, 13:04:18 UTC
[ Here is a lovely place for a pause to settle down and stay a while. ]

Yes, I suppose it has to be put like that, given that it is how it happened to him.

[ Sigh. ] I assumed I had made my intentions clear, but not making sure was negligent on my part and I'm relieved Jack accepted my apology.

They never got to do that special favour... 40410 August 17 2010, 14:34:03 UTC
[ Can we mention here that her first sentence makes him go what? Because it's so full of what that he actually abandons his lineface and takes on an expression of what. Why does she even have to state that? Why won't she stop dodging? ]

He - said he told you he didn't want it, though.

It's all the same once you're dead. And a dead subject line can't laugh. echo_of_utopia August 17 2010, 15:50:41 UTC
That is not what happened, Alex.

When I treated his arm at first I intended to give him something to relieve the pain. After talking to him I decided a sedative would be the better option.

I realised later that I must have worded myself poorly when informing him of the change, because he did agree to the injection.

It looks like a subject line, but I can't be sure since there's no subject in it. 40410 August 17 2010, 16:46:43 UTC
[ There's a nasty falling sensation in his stomach, which has a lot to do with his wondering just how much effort she put into not wording herself poorly. ]

Did you tell him what it was?

I'm the same subject line. I just hadn't noticed it before. echo_of_utopia August 17 2010, 17:15:08 UTC
I told him it was something that would make it easier for him to relax.

[ She's also giving him a non-committal look of the 'it seems this is going to take a while, so if you want to make use of your couch...' variety. ]

I'm not a subject line! ...At least... I don't think so... 40410 August 17 2010, 17:46:43 UTC
[ He's closed off again. ]

It sent him completely to sleep.

[ Just. You know. In case she'd fogotten that. In her understating. ]

Nobody is gonna cry over my subject line anyways. echo_of_utopia August 17 2010, 18:06:27 UTC
It did.

[ Technically he could have stayed awake with a little more effort, but Lamb guesses Alex might not be interested in that distinction. ]

You self-righteous witch! No-one asked for your subject line! 40410 August 17 2010, 19:28:18 UTC
[ If he looks at her for a while, maybe she will recognise the essential problem here by herself! ]

It's just a subject line, but the blood smells real. 40410 August 17 2010, 19:42:31 UTC
[ Why does he have to explain this.

But they're friends, so he's nice about it, although his voice is tense. ]

Sof'... you can't understate that kind of thing.

You and I both know subject lines like that don't exist. echo_of_utopia August 17 2010, 20:28:25 UTC
[ Because, general being-Sofia-Lamb-ness aside, those are the glorious 60s where DOCTOR KNOWS BEST and you don't have to explain shit as long as you don't kill anybody too much.

No, seriously, this has her genuinely stumped. She understands the problem with magical horror drugs and can just about grasp what might bother Alex about his own sedation, but him actually being upset about this?

Maybe he thought it could be dangerous? ]

Most of the time the drug only calms people down, but not everybody reacts exactly the same way. Jack was already exhausted, which likely made it easy for him to fall asleep. I'm sure I administered the correct dosage however and there was absolutely no danger to him at any time.

[ Her tone is a little more hesitant now, she's stopped explaining the case and started guessing at why this bothers Alex so much. ]
