Picspam / Recap: House 1x03 Occam's Razor

Sep 17, 2010 17:13

After binging on spoilers and promos all summer, I'm trying to abstain the last week.

It's really hard (that's what she said).

Ahem.

Okay, so, I am NOT WATCHING SNEAK PEEKS.  OR EPIC PROMOS FROM ANOTHER HEMISPHERE.  In an attempt to keep me away from the awesomeness, I'm creating picspams of some of my favorite House/Cuddy episodes (I'd be kidding myself if I wasn't going to have this be H/C-centric).  This is by no means an exhaustive list, but it does include Baggage--and I must have been drunk when I decided that was a good idea, because, wow.  THIS IS HOW MUCH OF A DISTRACTION I NEED THIS WEEK.

First up: Occam's Razor.  Season 1, people.  I've been watching this show since the PILOT.  I liked their interaction in the pilot, with their talk of musical philosophers and bargaining agreements.  I liked the second episode, Paternity, with the bickering: "You can't do that!" "Again, why are we focusing on my screwups?"  But the third episode, Occam's Razor?  Ahhh.  Although my personal shipping tends to focus on "what characters do I want to watch in a scene together," this was the episode where I thought, 'Oh, they might have this pairing as a potential love interest down the road.'  SO MY CURRENT "INTEREST" IN HOUSE/CUDDY IS NOT REALLY MY FAULT.  David Shore wrote this ep, after all.  Plus it had Chase + Cameron flirtation, Foreman not being annoying, and Wilson being helpful/observant.  What's not to love?!

The caps are pretty awful quality, but the people are still distractingly pretty.

CUDDY: You're half an hour late.
HOUSE: Busy case load.
CUDDY: One case is not a load.
HOUSE: So how are we doing on cotton swabs today?  If there's an acute shortage I could run home and--
CUDDY: No, you couldn't.
HOUSE: Nice.

She's really the one who gives him a hard time about his leg (and, considering she's the one who suggested it, way to poke a sharp stick, Cuddles).  But we didn't know about any of this at the time.  I love the first cap in the fourth row -- he has a mischievous twinkle; he really enjoys screwing with her.

Also: "This ray of sunshine is Dr. Lisa Cuddy." / "Good morning, sunshine.  Want to play?"  I FIND IT CHARMING; GIVE ME A BREAK :D

CUDDY: He has a sore throat.
HOUSE: Of course. Yes, why didn't I-- because he said that it hurt and I should have deduced that it meant it was sore.
CUDDY: I was in a board meeting.
HOUSE: Patients come first, right?
CUDDY: Wouldn't want to prescribe a lozenge if there was any doubt about it's efficacy, huh?
HOUSE: You once asked me why I think I'm always right.  And I realized, that you're right.  At least, I think you're right.  I don't really know now, do I?
*smiles*
PATIENT: Hey, I'm here!

THIS is the scene.  Even now it's one of my favorites.  He's still trying to screw with her; she knows it and he knows she knows it.   But they're both enjoying it; the eye!sex, the smiling.  The SMILING.  He chuckled at her joke (House! enjoying the company of another human being besides Wilson!  Even if it's just to pull her pigtails).

WILSON: Hey, Cuddy said you needed a consult.  What's up? I'm busy.
HOUSE: *Sighs*

House is trying to screw with her again.  "I inconvenienced you because you inconvenienced me."  But it also means that he has to spend more time with her.  "Your MO is to avoid me at all costs and suddenly you need my input on every move you make.  I can only assume that's because I'm on a date."  Also: "You have done the math on this, right? She'll be with you, where you claim to not want her."

I love that she called Wilson and it amuses me that House thought he could get away with that more than once.  Also, Cuddy golfs?  Huh.  I guess that's what IMPORTANT DOCTORS do.  In the middle of the work day.

Oh, and there's some stuff with the patient.  It's interesting.  Chase and Cameron flirt; Cameron purposely screws with him which made me like her a little bit (I've always liked them more together; he became less arrogant and she became less obnoxious).

HOUSE: You don't need me here.
CUDDY: No, I don't, but working with people actually makes you a better doctor.
HOUSE: When did I sign up for that course?
CUDDY: When did I give you the impression that I care?
HOUSE: Working in this clinic obviously instills a deep sense of compassion.  I've got your home number, right? case anything comes up at 3 o'clock in the morning.
CUDDY: It's not gonna work.  You know why? Because this is fun.  You think of something to make me miserable, I think of something to make you miserable.  It's a game.  And I'm gonna win.  'Cause I got a head start.  You are already miserable.

Oh, I'm not sure anyone's going to win this.  Or maybe both of you win; who knows.  Always with the games and the insults; don't get me wrong, I love it and I love watching it, but it's amazing they've gotten to where they are now.  I also don't want this to go away; this sparring, this tension.  I just want it . . . nicer?  Certainly less vicious.  And even more eye!sex  (yes, I'm getting demanding now).

WILSON: What's with you and her?
HOUSE: Oh, don't.
WILSON: Do you have a thing for her.  The only people who can get to you--
HOUSE: NO.  There is not a thin line between love and hate.  There is, in fact, a Great Wall of China with armed sentries posted every twenty feet between love and hate.

All together now: IT'S NOT HATE.  IT'S FOREPLAY.

LOVE.  SO MUCH LOVE FOR THAT LINE.  AND THIS SCENE.  Someone's certainly been asked this question before and someone's protesting just a little too much.  Is this the first scene with hints of the OT3?  I think it is!  Oh, WIlson, so young.

House is still trying to screw with Cuddy at the end of the episode.  Apparently, he gets to leave clinic early because he "kissed her ass" on Wilson's recommendation.  I WANT TO SEE THAT SCENE.  AND WHY WAS CUDDY NOT MORE SUSPICIOUS.  And this is only the third episode; they'll just go back and forth, screwing with each other (figuratively, people, minds out of the gutter . . . literally comes later :D) in a crazy, twisted dance.  AND I LOVE IT.
