Lunch
Becker set down his cheese sandwich. Eyeing Jess’s lunch enviously, he sighed.
“What’s the matter?”
“Just thinking that your lunch looks tastier than mine,” he told Jess.
She instantly offered to share the smoked salmon noodle salad with him. He refused.
“Emily made it for me,” she told him, smiling at her girlfriend. “I’m a dreadful cook.” Emily began to protest but Jess stopped her. “Need I remind you of the time we had to call the fire brigade?”
Emily relented. “It was the first time I have seen anyone begin a fire simply by trying to cook an egg.”
