So, Don't-Ask, Don't-Tell is officially dead. Gay/bisexual people already in the military and those looking to enlist in the future can now be honest about who they are and who they love and poor Dan Choi can re-enlist. And that's great. I had this shared with me a few months back, I've sent it on to a few people, so I feel it's only right to throw it in your direction too because it's quite fabulous.

I do agree the uncritical celebration on this policy being killed off is dangerous business. It's a nice gesture, but let's not crack open too many bottles before thinking about what exactly is being celebrated here.

Makes my skin crawl a bit, but then rhetoric of war, the glorification of it and the military tends to do that to me.

I understand the conflict, the US is incredibly militaristic and militarism, especially of corporatist imperialism makes uncomfortable viewing. On this one, I choose to celebrate the principle: That anything a straight person can do, a gay person should have an equal freedom to do.
