I was thinking about getting a Mac Book Pro later on when they made the 12 inch myself. I'm just using an iBook right now and it's fuctional with the software I use but at some point, I'm going to need more power. It would probably make more sense for me to save up for the Tower though since I do most of my shit at home and I could keep my iBook to transport it.

I think for what you're doing, an iMac is more than enough. That or just wait for them to put Intel chips in the iBooks. (if they even decide to) Mac Book Pros are for traveling professional photographers, designers, etc. so it wouldn't be worth it to you to spend all that money necessarily. With either machine, you'll stay on top of techonology for a while.

Just curious, but do you get a fat discount on Mac Book Pros? I might need to make the switch in the near future, even though I've been a loyal PC user for life. :(

Kinda, but I'm limited to how many computers I get a discount on. (I think like 3 for the year so I can probably hook you up) I may be able to get 25% through the EPP website which is pretty awesome but otherwise I'm just looking at like 15% which isn't bad either on top of a student discount. I'm going to look out for returned ones and demo ones that were pulled from the shelves. Those usually go for like a good $500 cheaper sometimes. You can always ask about those also when visiting an Apple store.

I never realized how horrible Windows PCs are until I got this iBook. Well, that and when I started working for Apple. XD But seriously, hardcore designers might as well be required to use a Mac nowadays. You'll never have problems with crashes, viruses, etc. Plus they have remarkable resolution and are much easier to use overall. I also wouldn't bother with a laptop since you probably do most of your work at home. It's all about the G5 tower, dude.

I'm not a Mac lover (I hate the lack of compatibility and I'm not a hardcore designer anyways) but I just wanted to comment on buying display computers. I'd really recommend against that. I did it once and the computer was a complete nightmare. It had bug after bug after bug (not viruses, just problems running, and eventually even the hardware started breaking down piece after piece). This may have been a coincidence and just a lemon of a computer but it seems rather odd- I personally think it had to do with the computer being left on too long and too many people fussing with it. Also, if they have a touch-activated mouse, you can be guaranteed this has been worn down a lot. And who knows what people have done to the computer in general. They also usually don't qualify for the same warranty as brand new comps, and all this in itself can be worth more than the kickback you'll get.

This is just my experience, anyhow.
