Melancholia is an apt description of how I felt after watching it

Last night, I watched the movie Melancholia starring Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Kiefer Sutherland. I cannot in any good conscience recommend it to anyone. Not that it was completely horrible, but the cons so heavily outweigh the pros that it just isn't worth it.

I have received strongly negative reviews of Lars Von Trier's work from other people whose opinions I trust. He does not seem like a fun filmmaker.

No, definitely not. And a quick perusal of his résumé on IMDB shows that Melancholia actually has the highest Metacritic score of all of his movies, so ... yeah. Avoid this dude.
