I find it so fascinating that our culture has matured into one where we "outgrow" the supernatural or superstitions, whereas, for hundreds of years prior, it was customary to believe both in the laws of science and superstition.
I think that has a lot to do with the increasing rigor of scientific investigation. It's only fairly recently that we've come up with the idea that if something has no disproof conditions, it probably isn't true.
