I would like to learn how to cook everything. I mean starting from the very basics. I really love food and would like to be able to express myself through food. So I really need to learn how to cook. Can anyone give me any hints, tips, a book to read, or maybe a website to go to? Thanks Ya'll!!!

How to Cook Like Your Grandmother is a great website with lots of recipes. It shows you the basics on how to chop a tomato, cut up a head of lettuce, dice an onion, etc and also shows you how to cook everything from scratch and easy ways to use convenience food too.

Most older cookbooks are a good place to start. 74' Joy of Cooking, any of the Good Housekeepings and I, personally recommend How to Cook Everything by Mark Bittman. All good starter books.

How to Boil Water by the food network is how I started. Very basic, simple recipes for beginners. Also check out better home and garden's Anyone Can Cook, which rates recipes from level 1 to 3 (3 being the hardest, but still very descriptive and easy to follow). I have both of these in my arsenal and have had some great success from them :) good luck on your cooking!!

I think, for someone who is LITERALLY starting out, it's important to look up the common cooking terminology (saute, chop, dice, sear, blanch etc.) and follow recipes exactly (don't try that with allrecipes.com because some of those recipes are seriously flawed). My boyfriend loves watching Good Eats on the food network because Alton Brown explains what happens to food chemically when it goes through different cooking processes. Once you understand how ingredients are affected by different cooking processes, you can alter recipes to sit your preferences.
