I really like the dynamic with this family, you've written it so well. These last two chapters were great!

YAY!! I was so worried that she would run away instead, I'm glad she is brave! Now we will get to know what's underneath, heh heh. Though I hope she doesn't end up getting hurt. Maybe the shadow elemental is living under the trap door or something? :S
