Reefer Madness is based on this old PSA (conveniently called Reefer Madness among other things) which is kind of over-the-top and camp in that black and white PSA kind of way. It's kind of awesome, but not as awesome as the musical unless it's the colorized version.

But yeah. It is a crazy plot, but it had a reason to be a crazy plot.

Every time I read reefer I couldn't help but giggle a little bit, I haven't heard that word since my mom talked about her high school days. I like the subtle ways it's shown that Chad and Ryan dig each other. Though I gotta agree with eggo, plot is jitterbug crazy. Nice
