there is no one who quite enjoys ripping your heart out like joss whedon (i adore him, but it's so true) but no one quite does tragic like jacqueline carey. not the whedon tradition of killing people off (or otherwise seriously screwing with them) just as they find happiness (to the point of predictability, really, but it's still a heartbreaker),

That being said, it is incredibly angsty. If you're not particularly enjoying it, I would suggest you skip the book and watch the movie, and then go back and read The Vampire Lestat, which is about a hundred times more enjoyable.
