You really encapsulated EVERYTHING here. It was like...Jenna was born and then lived her entire life, and the show (and probably the books?) don't say even a quarter of any of this, but when I read this (the first time around), I was like, *yes*, exactly.
And I'm really sad that Logan got killed off so soon (I prefer Alaric and John in the shippy sense) but seriously, Jenna? Has SO much going on, with so many different dynamics with SO MANY DIFFERENT male characters that it just kills. KILLS. (Seriously, they can show Matt/Caroline/Tyler a lesson or two and that's saying something.)
And the family history with Jenna and Miranda...it just does fit. It just is the kind of history that would shape a woman the way Jenna is portrayed on the show, and shape her children, where we pick up where we meet them.
I don't think Jenna is in the books? It's a different aunt, and I think Jenna was created for the show. She's just a character that's obviously led such a full life and the show doesn't talk about it at all and it makes me sad.
(Like, there was a fic description the other day that said it was Jenna POV, Jenna/Alaric, Damon/Elena and said it was that way just so that there was another way to write their ship and it made me SO MAD. Jenna is not there for you to use like that.)
I am sad that they got rid of Logan. I appreciate that the show kills off characters that mean something, but at the same time I hate it, because now we don't get to play with his dynamic with Jenna anymore or Mason's or the three of them together. If they kill off John I will shank someone.

YES. That's a really great insight because, as little screentime as she gets, I think that's how I see her? Like, she really had started to figure things out and now she has to take care of these two teenagers and that kind of throws everything off.
Yep. You get the idea that she had just started to figure out how to run her life, just her, and then there are these kids that she's suddenly responsible for and now she has to relearn her balance all over again.
