Someone knocked on the door.
Lana looked up from her computer and frowned. Most of her friends wouldn’t bother with that. “Come in!” she called out, going back to proof reading her lab report.
Suddenly, a voice whispered in her ear. “Do you always let strange men into your room?”
“Jake!” she squealed, spinning herself around and throwing herself into his arms. She pressed happy kisses all over his face. “What are you doing here?” she said between kisses.
“Later,” he murmured, fisting his hands in her hair and holding her still so that he could kiss her properly. “Later.”
She happily forgot about her question as they kissed, reveling in the feeling of his lips on hers, his arms around her. It had been too long already, and they hadn’t had enough time together after their reunion before they’d had to head back to their respective colleges.
Finally, she drew back, needing to breathe. She rested her forehead against his and tired to remember what she’d wanted to know.
“Hi,” she said, smiling against his lips, as he wasn’t really willing to stop kissing her.
“Hi,” he murmured back, pulling her backwards towards what he hoped was her bed.
His knees bumped into the bed and he went tumbling backwards, pulling her down on top of him.
She laughed as she landed on him.
He looked up at her with a rueful smile. “Oops.” His expression changed to a leer, as he rolled them over, pressing her back into the mattress and hovering over her. He began pressing soft, wet kisses along the length of her neck. “So did you miss me?” he asked, voice husky with desire.
She shivered as he hit a sensitive patch of skin. “You know I did.”
“How much?” he asked, lingering over that spot, hands sliding under her shift, tugging it upwards.
“So much.” She arched up, moaning as his hands cupped her breasts.
He smiled triumphantly against her neck, lifting his head only long enough to slide her shirt over her head, and then he descended lower, tongue running against the lacy material of her bra.
He was just sliding the straps down her shoulder, when the door opened to her roommate, Beth, saying, “Hey Lana, did you want to go grab -” she stopped midsentence as she realized what she walked in on. “I’ll give you a minute,” she said, backing out of the room, snickering to herself.
Lana pushed Jake back from her, having been using him as a shield. “You didn’t lock the door?” she hissed, face bright red as she pulled her shirt back over her head and ran her fingers through her hair, trying to straighten it.
“Sorry?” he tried, sitting up and watching her as she put herself to rights.
There was a polite knock at the door. “Everyone decent?” Beth called through it.
Lana sighed, and flopped down on the bed next to him, batting his hand away as he tried to wrap it around her. “Come in, Beth,” she answered, giving Jake a dirty look.
He just laughed and pressed a kiss to the top of her head.
Beth walked back in, grinning broadly. “So Lana, are you going to introduce me?”
“Beth, Jake. Jake, Beth.”
“It’s nice to finally meet you, Jake,” Beth smirked. “I can see why Lana’s been keeping you to herself.”
Lana frowned, not liking the implication of Beth’s comment.
Beth noticed and made a face at her. “Simmer down, cranky pants. I just came back to see if you wanted to grab dinner, but I’m sensing you have plans for the evening that don’t involve dining hall food.”
“She does,” Jake said smoothly, taking Lana’s hand.
“Well, I’ll get out of your hair,” Beth excused herself, pausing briefly to grab her purse. “Nice to meet you, Jake. Later, Lan.”
She shut the door behind her.
The lock clicked shut.
Lana threw herself down on her stomach, burying her face in her pillow.
Jake shook his head, trying to pry the pillow away from her. “What’s wrong?”
“My roommate walked in on us. And then she hit on you.” She paused, considering. “You know, I’m not sure which one pisses me off more.”
“She wasn’t hitting on me,” Jake protested.
“Was too.”
“She was not.” Jake ran his hands through his hair in frustration. “Wait, why are we arguing about this? I flew 3000 miles to see you, let’s get back to what we were doing before.” He made a grab for her, but she dodged his hands. “Lana,” he whined.
She slid off the bed and sat back down in her desk chair, removing herself from the situation. “Wait, I remember what I wanted to know. Why are you here?”
He sat up, frown on his face. “You can’t be serious.”
She nodded.
He laughed. “Lana, sweetheart, what’s tomorrow?”
“Saturday?”
“Lana.”
Her face cleared. “Oh! You came for my birthday?” She beamed at him. “Jake!” She threw herself back into his arms. “That’s so sweet!”
He laughed, kissing her. “You know, for a bright girl, you can be pretty slow sometimes.”
“Hey,” she pouted. “It’s practically my birthday. You should be nice to me.”
He brought his hands up to kiss her face. “I flew 3000 miles to see you, birthday girl. If that’s not nice, what is?”
“This,” Lana breathed, leaning forward and pressing her lips to hiss, kissing him deeply.
They tumbled backwards to the bed.

Later, after, they were curled up together under a sheet, her head resting on his chest.
One of his hands stroked her hair, while the other was curled possessively around her hip. She traced absent patterns on his chest, breathing him in.
“You know, this wasn’t what I had planned,” Jake said suddenly, breaking the silence.
Lana raised her head, tilting it up so that she could see his face. “What?”
“I had it all planned,” he said, though he gave no indication of actually having heard her question. “Romantic dinner, my nice hotel room, music, candles…”
She propped herself up on an elbow. “What are you talking about, Jake?”
“This,” he said simply. He pulled her head down to kiss her again, lingering over it.
Drawing back, Lana smiled at him. “This,” she said. “Was pretty great.”
Jake smirked. “Well, thank you.” He winced, as she swatted at his chest. “But seriously, I had this whole night planned, and this kind of ruined it.”
“Were you planning on not still taking me out for a romantic dinner with the intention of seducing me afterwards?” Lana pouted. “Well, then I guess you can be on your merry way back to California.” She started to slide out from under the sheet, shrieking in laughter as Jake pulled her back on top of him.
“Not a chance.” Jake grinned up at her. “Now that I have you, I’m not letting you go again.”
Lana smiled, her hand tracing along his cheek. “Promise?”
“Promise.”
They smiled foolishly at each other, both perfectly happy in that moment, in that time.
