Lila sat on the terrace at Greystone and looked out over the gardens.

She sipped wine and twisted her wedding and engagement rings nervously around her finger. Morgan was out of town, and she knew too well what that meant.

She hoped he wouldn’t come this time.

She hoped he would.

She hoped someday she’d be strong enough to tell him to stay out of her life and mean it.

The hold Spencer had over her, the hold they had over each other was messy and self-destructive and she knew that eventually someone was going to get terribly hurt.

Lila had meant her wedding vows when she’d stood in front of their friends and family at Queen of Angels and promised to love and cherish only Morgan for the rest of her life. For once, Spencer had been gracious, declining Morgan’s request to be the best man at the wedding. Morgan had so hurt by that, she remembered. But it had been for the best. She wasn’t sure whether she would have been able to get through the ceremony if Spencer had been standing at the altar with them.

Spencer had stayed away for most of the first year of their marriage, which had allowed Lila to relax and settle into it, without the constant worry about what he might do.

But then, out of the blue, Spencer reappeared in their lives, fiancée in tow, and with plans to finally come home for good. Morgan had welcomed the news, thrilled that Spencer was returning and that he’d finally decided to settle down.

Lila was anything but thrilled.

As Spencer settled into life in Port Charles once more, Lila grew increasingly anxious. When she saw him and Janessa, which was far too often for her liking, he was never anything but polite and solicitous. That scared Lila more than anything else, because she knew him well enough to know that Spencer behaving that way was Spencer at his most dangerous.

The months wore on, and he did nothing but act like a devoted fiancé and dutiful son. She began to wonder if maybe she’d been wrong. That maybe after all that time, he’d finally moved on and the games were over. She started to let herself believe that.

The night that she, Morgan, Spencer, and Janessa all attended the opera together changed her mind.

She closed her eyes as the memory washed over her.

The four of them were sitting in a private box. Throughout the first act, things had been normal. Morgan had looked like he was about to fall asleep, Janessa trying to pay attention, but mostly scanning the audience for anyone she knew. Lila had tried to pay attention herself, but she found herself staring at Spencer instead. There was something captivating about the way he let himself be entranced by the music.

When the lights came up for intermission, Morgan darted out of the box as quickly as he could, presumably to step outside and clear his head. Janessa excused herself more politely, making her apologies and heading for the powder room.

Which left Lila and Spencer alone together, something she’d tried desperately to avoid.

She started to rise to leave, but Spencer wrapped his hand around her wrist and tugged her back into her seat.

“What’s your hurry, princess?” he drawled. “Scared to be alone with me?”

Lila looked at him, trying to hide the panic in her eyes. “Why would I be afraid?” She gestured towards the well-lit theatre and the crowd that was milling about. “Even you wouldn’t try something with half of Port Charles within sight.”

He raised an eyebrow. “Wouldn’t I?” he murmured huskily. He settled their still joined hands on her knee and slowly, almost absently began caressing the skin he found there.

She closed her eyes, and let herself revel in how good his hands felt on her for a moment. As she felt his hand begin to creep higher, sliding under the hem of the dress that she wore, her eyes flew open. “What are you doing?” she hissed, trying to bat his hand away.

But he wouldn’t be deterred, trailing his long fingers up the inside of her thigh till he reached her center.

Lila bit her lip to try to suppress her moan.

He leaned into whisper in her ear, laughing a little as he did. “You’re wet, princess. Are you sure you don’t want this?”

She looked at him helplessly, arousal shining in her eyes. She couldn’t deny it.

Triumph lit in his eyes. He didn’t speak, but pushed aside her panties and drove a finger into her.

Now she couldn’t suppress the moan, closing her eyes and giving in to how he was making her feel.

“Open your eyes, Lila,” he ordered, keeping his eyes on her face. “You don’t want people to suspect.”

She forced her eyes open, and found him staring down at her.

“Good girl,” he soothed, slipping another finger inside her. “Now look out at the crowd, and pretend we’re doing nothing more than talking.”

She obeyed instantly, afraid that he’d stop if she didn’t.

“Do you see them?” he whispered. “None of them know what’s going on. None of them know that you’re letting me fuck you where your husband and my fiancée could walk in and catch us at any moment.”

She looked at him in panic now, wondering if that’s exactly what he intended.

“Eyes forward,” he reminded. “Or I won’t do this.” He flicked his thumb across her clit, making her moan again.

She turned her face forward again, and Spencer rewarded her by continuing to rub her clit as he thrust into her.

“You’re enjoying the fact that anyone could catch us,” he taunted. “Admit it.”

She shook her head, wanting to deny him this one thing.

“Liar,” he accused, adding a third finger.

She came on a moan that was almost a sob.

As she recovered, she kept looking straight ahead, knowing that to look at Spencer would be to acknowledge the power that he had over her.

When she finally snuck a glance, he was smirking in the self-satisfied way that she’d known he would be.

He bent to whisper in her ear once more. “I’m going to go take a walk. When the second act starts, meet me in the coat room.”

Before she could protest, he was gone, and she sat lost in her thoughts as what just happened replayed in her mind.

Her eyes closed, she didn’t notice Morgan reentering the box. When he laid a hand on her arm, she nearly jumped out of her skin.

Morgan mistook the panic in her eyes. “I’m so sorry,” he apologized, running the hand across her arm in a soothing manner. “I didn’t mean to scare you.”

She shook her head and let out a weak laugh. “You didn’t,” she assured him, squeezing his hand gently.

He frowned and looked like he was about to protest, but Janessa coming into the box distracted him.

Janessa settled herself back into her seat, and shot Lila a puzzled look. “Where’s Spencer?”

Lila tried not to grit her teeth as she answered. “He said something about taking a walk.”

Satisfied, Janessa picked up her opera glasses and began looking out at the audience once more.

Lila looked over at Morgan. “I’m going to sneak out for a few minutes,” she whispered. “I need some air.”

He frowned again. “But the second act is about to start,” he protested.

She nodded. “I know, but it’ll just be a minute.” She pressed a kiss to his cheek and then pushed past him and out into the hall.

Outside, she slumped back against the door, the wood cool against her still hot skin. She closed her eyes for a moment, as the shame of what she’d just done and the shame of what she was about to do washed over her.

On still shaking legs, she started down the hall towards him…

A hand on her shoulder startled her out of her reverie.

She started, and craned her neck to see who it was, though she already knew.

“You shouldn’t sneak up on people, Spencer,” she scolded.

He tried to look apologetic. “I’m terribly sorry.” He leered at her. “Can I make it up to you?”

“I suppose,” she allowed, letting herself be helped to her feet. Spencer tugged her into his body and she went willingly, like she always did.

He bent his head to kiss her hello. It was a gentle kiss, the sort that made it seem like he had the right to be kissing her at all.

When he would have pulled back, she moved forward, intensifying the kiss. She was demanding and needy, the things she told herself an illicit affair was allowed.

Spencer obliged, plundering her mouth with his tongue, and grasping frantically at her body with his hands. He walked them backwards till her thighs bumped into the table and he boosted her up onto it, pushing her back till she was sprawled out like she was a feast laid out for his consumption.

As he helped himself to her body, Lila closed her eyes once more. Even as his hands pulled at her clothing, and his teeth and tongue drew helpless moans of pleasure from her lips, she vowed to herself that someday she would stop him.

She arched up off the table and pulled his weight down to hers, pushing the thoughts out of her mind, concentrating instead on what he was making her feel.

Someday.
