Kender + the entitlement generation = nerdrage!

Heh, feeling burned out? :)

Actually, if you're still doing some form of online RP, the idea of overly competitive people or people who don't have a sense of humor about their characters should be one you can heartily relate to...

I don't disagree here. I also see this in the LARP stuff that I run. Players who can't take a failing or attack on their character IC in any way except as an OOC attack against them. It's disheartening, especially when it causes friction that drives away other players.

I think it's a byproduct of culture anymore. The kids who get awards for showing up, the kids who are coddled and never punished or have anything said against them (even by their parents), and other aspects of how people are growing up now. I never had this problem even 8 years ago on MU*s, but in the past 5 it's been a consistent issue, which I also see in RL gaming as well.

I was thinking about this, actually, with regard to "professional" athletes using steroids and whatnot. What drives someone to do this stuff? I mean, at the pro level, it can be about money, but it's also there at lower levels. I wonder if the coddled children you speak of grow up thinking that losing is shameful and wrong. I'm sure some of them do, and it makes them feel like they need to win at any cost.

I was too busy to read it all. Since Kenders has the word Ken in it, I assume you're talking about some kind of weird Barbie dolls.
