38 degrees . . .

You won't see me in long pants very often, but it was pretty darn cold for us yesterday, so I wore them all day and it did feel good. Outside I wore my heaviest coat, a flannel hoodie. I walked around the yard yesterday morning to make sure everything was okay after a cold and windy night. Here I am in the green gazing ball, dressed for winter, ( Read more... )

Did you find any fallen iguanas?

Many years ago when we moved here, the first winter I heard about the iguanas falling from the trees and I could hardly believe it, but it is definitely true. Further south is where the abundance of iguanas live, so we don't have too many in our central area here. But southward, I've heard and seen many pictures of them falling like crazy from the trees. I find the little anoles that we have here in a cold and immobile state quite a bit. I've been able to pick them up and warm them in my hands and they will start moving again. It doesn't kill them and they are okay after they warm up. This morning it was 40 when we got up, but is now up to 62 and lots of sun. In a day or so we are supposed to make it up close to 80.

How's the weather there?

Our weather has been pretty typical: quite rainy and foggy with highs in the 40s, with some spells of clear weather when it gets into the 20s at night. The 10" of snow last month stayed around for almost a week before it turned to mud.

We have hummingbirds that live here year-round so I put a heat lamp out by the feeder when it is below freezing. The days are getting longer so Spring is on the way. Hooray!

38 degrees? That's close to freezing! So unusual for Florida. I am fearing our winter might be cold, too. We haven't had a cold winter like that since the early 2000s. Then, we had to wear coats, too.

If you lived closer to me, I'd loan you a coat. As it is, I suggest layering.

that's a lovely mirror ball
I had to move my crystal ball
so the assessor could measure the upstairs
it was fun watching her play with he red light

at one nursery we'd get plants with tiny little lizards
I would have loved to catch one
tried to ask a friend to mail one from florida
but I think it'd arrive freeze dried.
maybe one will sneak in when she moves to kentucky?

Patty Jansen has a shortish book- something about 're-entry into the empire
with mutant cactii that follow her around the yard and the wild ones try to move in with her tameones because she can keep them safe from armadillos. when she fights some pirates trying to steal them they surround her and weave their spikey seeds in to her armor to protect her.
closest I get to this is geraniums that scent at me when I water them.
