I went out with my camera for a little walk yesterday. I knew I would be laying low for awhile after my surgery, so wanted to be by myself and reflect on some things. The pond in wintertime is usually a good place to go and be alone ( Read more... )

Two beautiful photos. It sounds like even in sunny Florida there is a "winter" - a time to withdraw, but like you say - there is a bud coming up too - that's good to notice.

I'm sorry about your surgery. Have they removed the whole thing yet?

That is a beautiful place to meditate and what an awesome pic of it!

It's interesting how the pods droop. The one you captured seems to have landed on another that was face up so it looks like a big pod. The new bud is nice to see.

Yes, they must become top heavy and so many of them droop like that on their long stems. The lotus flowers and leaves are famous for standing tall above so many of the other water plants.

Anyway, I love how observant you are and thought that leaf dropped over and landed exactly on another one, but it is actually only one leaf and what you are seeing is the reflection below where it touched the water. Sometimes the reflections have more clarity than the actual thing that is doing the reflecting.

And what you see on the right is actually the center of the flower (those big pink flowers) and that is what it finally looks like at the very end. The lotus have so many stages.... such an amazing plant.
