On Halloween day I went to a local assisted living/nursing home. My friend Gail, whose father-in-law Artie is there, asked me if I’d come and take pictures of the residents. Gail and her husband, Jim, stop by there every day after work to see Artie ( Read more... )

Thanks for sharing.

Bless Gail's heart for doing what she does so these people know 'someone' does care.

Your photos are interesting!!!

You're welcome! Gail is such a generous person with her time, and has the biggest heart I know.

Poignant entry, the empty chairs, to me, convey the disappearing personalities of the residents. It looks like a kind place.

Thanks for your comment, joebanks. A very interesting observation about those chairs, one I hadn't thought of, but now I will. I like knowing what feelings and thoughts my photos and art evoke in a person. As I was making this post, I thought of you several times.

That's a very nice place! I love verandahs. And you found some more chairs waiting to be occupied! I think I love the one of the curtains framing the window and the stripes of sunlight on the bed the best. You are really good at portraits, so I'm sure they came out very well.

The therapist did a very good impression of Charlie Chaplan!

Gail is a very nice person, too.

I guess many of us will end up in God's Waiting Room. It needn't be sad, just very quiet.

I have been to many similar places, but this one is the nicest, cleanest and happiest one yet. Thanks for letting me know your favorite, Beth.

I agree with joebanks, "poignant" is the word. Your b&w's convey the mood marvelously.

The Charlie Chaplin therapist is wonderful as are Gail and the costumed staff. Good Karma to Gail for giving of herself to these often lonely Elders. It takes a special, open heart to do something like that on a regular basis.

Thank you!!!

Gail is that type of big & open-hearted person....beyond and with bells on.
When I was in college, I worked as a nurse's aide at the local hospital. It was almost too much for me and I knew then I could never do a job like that...just didn't have it in me. It does take a special kind of person to give of themselves like that....but we all have our own talents and give as we can.

I love the black and white art shots. Pensive. They convey a very real mood.

I really admire the folks that do this job and especially Gail for making the effort - a good woman!

Another perfect word for it all..."pensive."

Gail is such an extravert that I get exhausted just being around her sometimes, but thank goodness for her, and for all kinds of people and personalities in this world. We all have our "jobs" to do.
