Rob and I went to Venice Rookery on Tuesday morning. We left Bradenton at 6 a.m. and arrived at 7:15 a.m., just as the sun was coming up. Most of the fog had lifted by the time we got there and the beautiful Golden Hour was upon us. These were the first four pictures I took.

Thanks, Beth. These were the only photos I got in this light. Within minutes it suddenly got so much lighter and the whole atmosphere brightened. We have warmed up so much in the last few days. The weather was nice in the 70s and low 80s and turned out to be a beautiful day. I had on shorts & t-shirt.

Oh, that's good - a nice day!

Thanks, Joan. A little cropping is mostly all I did. I'm learning about the manual settings and I see how much they improve a photo over the auto setting the camera gives you.

I bet you got a lot of nice photos that day! With the manual settings they look "richer" in color.

I think I did, I just have to find time to look at them.

Sometimes the auto setting does a really nice job and I don't see how it could be improved upon. But then other times the difference and improvements of the manual setting just blows me away. I couldn't believe how the birds just seemed to jump off the page in the near darkness with those settings and how even the water drips showed up so well in the second one.
