some news . . .

I took Maria to see the movie "Cowboys and Aliens" yesterday. Kind of a last hurrah before school starts on Monday. It was an okay movie, but what really got me was it was cowboys and Indians battling the "bad guy aliens" instead of it being set in current day. If that really had happened, I bet they had some tales to tell ( Read more... )

I loved Cowboys and Aliens. Can't get more American than that. Yes it was a Western of sort so it was set in the old west 1800's. Action/Sci-fi are my favorite types of movies. I saw that a few days ago and Chris and I had a blast. My icon is from the movie ID4 which is one of my faves and we watch it every 4th of July ( ... )

Wow. Oh. Wow. Just put in earplugs, and keep posting those glorious photos. The sunset grouch can just look the other way. So there.

I Loved "Cowboys and Aliens". Great characters. Fitting ambience. Naaasstyyyy villains. Cut my reading teeth on westerns and mysteries. Didn't really discover science fiction, my true reading love, until Junior High (as we called it back then). C&A blends favorite venues for me.

Des, the entire theater burst into laughter and a few cheered when that slimey son got yanked into the bars. Just what I wanted Lonergan (?did I spell that right?) to do.

That was a great scene. I love competent loners that don't say much but their actions really speak for them. I'm terrible with name hehe I don't remember his name but that's it I think. One of my favorite dialogs was when he found his old gang and didn't want them to know he'd lost his membory.

Lonergan: How many members we have?
Gang guy: About the same as before.
Lonergan: Which is?
Gang guy: 30.
Lonergan: That's right.

That was brilliant. I liked that guy actually because he really was loyal. Yeah, Sci Fi when it's done well is loads of fun. I'm the opposite. I never liked Westerns as a kid. Thought they were boring. But when I developed an appreciation for the 1800's I like them now. I went to Junior High too hehe.

Yeah. The "You were always my favorite" line from the one gang guy tickled me.

This tough 'loner' who gets the job done reminds me a bit of a few roles the old Colonel has played in the past, don't you think?

Also I should mention that your comment of science fiction "when it's done well is loads of fun" can really be applied to westerns, mystery, action, noir, even romance too. Of course, I tend to find fun in all those genres--unless they're done badly. Hah!

Yeah that was a good line.
I hadn't thought of that.
I just say stuff like that because I know people that aren't familiar with science fiction think that it is synomymous with cheese. Like the early Star Trek. Now I'm a Star Trek fan. I love it, but I never got into the original series because of how it looked and felt so fake. Most people that aren't into it can't get past that and think it's all bad or don't know how to look at it. There are some bad films out there oh gosh and I sure have gotten pickier as I've gotten older and wiser.

Thanks, Sharon. Yes, I'm going to make a few cards, as I had none to pass out at the show except my glass cards.

I googled Passione and it looks like a very good movie. I like John Turturro and the films he's been in so far.
