You could also think of the movie as twisted version of The Id, the Ego, and the Superego, with the Superego on the side of evil instead of good. Tuco is fascinating in that his character is pure Id, and that is what makes him "ugly," he represents is the "ugly" side of all of us.

Interesting! I do get the Id-like nature of the Tuco character. Maybe there's a vicarious thrill for the audience in watching such an uninhibited character.
