Christmas day for a_darker_dream

She glanced over at her father and smiled softly at him, he nodded at her, letting her know it was alright. Moving from his side she pulled her mobile from her pocket, and knowing Henry would have his on him, she called him. Rose had promised she would do at least that

Putting down the glass of whiskey I had gotten half way through I picked up my mobile phone that had just started to vibrate softly. I shifted slightly, bringing my legs up under me. Seeing her name I smiled wide and pressed the call button;

"Hello?" I said softly.

I smiled softly as she spoke, grateful that she was here, that she had thought about me... I wasn't quite sure what moping was, but if Pete had brought her to fetch me then she must have been quite sullen. I felt pride within me that I could make her happier for a little while at least.

"I told you that I would be okay love, but I'm so glad that you're here" I replied honestly and I was, so glad. I pressed a soft kiss to her lips and reached for my scarf, winding it around my neck.

"I just didn't want you to be on your own, you know me...worry about everyone else." Her fingers brushed his free hand, "Come on, we shouldn't keep Dad waiting."

"Yes, I know" I smiled, nodding and pulling on my woolen hat grabbed my keys, bag, phone and pager and opened the front door. Locking it behind us I began to head down towards where the car was, opening the door and slipping inside.

"Good Evening Pete" I said, smiling, with a small nod.

Rose slid into the front seat, closing the door behind her and she smiled over at her father, a thank you smile.

He smiled back.

"Henry, I hope work wasn't too bad today, it being christmas and all." He shifted the car into gear and headed down the road.

I shook my head; "No, it wasn't that bad, there was enough work for everyone and I actually got time to talk to people in other departments during dinner. Normally people sit with others off their own department, but today because there wasn't the usual amount of people, they were willing to sit and talk to others. It was interesting" I smiled softly.

"Thats good," Pete said, nodding slowly, "Well, I hope you are hungry, we have plenty of food and drink at the house. Jake and Mickey are there too...have you met the two of them yet?"

"I am quite, yes" I hadn't really eaten much at lunch time, I had only grabbed a sandwich. "No, not yet." I had spoken to Mickey though, that time on the phone, when he had asked about the bruises...would he ask again tonight? I didn't know so tried hard not to worry about it - I was with Rose, that's all that mattered.

"You will have to excuse Jacks too, she might be a little short, this is the first day shes been out of bed all day since David was born."

I nodded slowly; "Okay, I'll bear that in mind, I do understand though. I've been around my fair share of pregnant women and those who have just given birth" I smiled, sitting back against the seat.

"I'm sure she'll be fine," Rose said softly with a smile, "Don't waorry him dad." Rose laughed a little, this must be a little daunting as it was for Henry, meeting the family as such.

I laughed and it held a slight tinge of nervousness. It will be fine, it's not as if I hadn't met Pete or Jackie before, but this was different, Mickey was her best friend and Jake just as close I would think. I closed my eyes and tried to relax, concentrate.

The rest of the journey was pretty silent, the radio played a mixture of modern and christmas tunes and Rose fought hard not to look back at Henry.

As the ar stopped outside the house, Rose unbuckled her belt and turned to look at Henry, a smile on her face.

I listened with my eyes closed to the radio and to the low rumble of the car engine and for a short while I was able to just be without worrying what Mickey would make of me, and Jackie too.

When the car stopped I opened my eyes as I felt hers on me and I small smile crossed my face. I had to stop myself from kissing her, a small sigh escaping my throat as I straightened myself out and stretched, yawning, trying to wake myself up a bit.

Rose smiled more when she saw him look at her, "So, ready to do this?"

Sipping from inside the car she waited outside for him.

I nodded; "As ready as I'll ever be" there was still a slight nervousness in my voice that I couldn't get rid of.

Undoing my belt I opened the door and got out, again fighting with myself not to kiss her.
