There is a shelf in my university's library on which books that are no longer needed or desired are placed so that they may be given away, snatched up by whomever may find them first. I've long been aware of it. It has been a source of disappointment for just as long. Nothing ever came close to being worth the difficulty of carrying it home. But ( Read more... )

Ban's mom worked in the public library in BH, and she gave me first picks from books headed for that shelf. I took collections of William Safire's words column. Also, I've gotten several books from the Political Science department's free books shelf here at pitt, including a copy of Backlash that used to belong to my first Brack advisor.
