Molly is a good student: almost overly diligent, eager to learn and blessed with a remarkable memory. When it comes to exams, however, she feels like she knows nothing at all. It doesn’t help that she tells herself it’s only the nerves - her knees wobble all the same and she feels sick and sweaty and stupid. So when the last exam is done and she starts working in her new job, she is considerably relieved.

Then Molly meets Sherlock Holmes and it is exam time all over again. He constantly asks “What’s this?” or “What does the green bruise on his ankle tell us?” or even “So how do we know he was murdered?”. Molly struggles to find an answer - she is there to help him after all - but she only manages in maybe 2 out of 10 cases. When she doesn’t, she feels well-known panic rising inside her, narrowing down her vision, and she barely manages a word. Later, she will learn that these questions aren’t actually directed at her, that he barely uses them to voice his thought process, but until then all meetings with Sherlock feel like an oral exam and - worse - like one she is failing.
