21 seconds.

That was the time it took Molly to memorise all there was to know about a body new at her morgue. Someone had to remember, after all, or else these people were nothing more than flesh. And since nobody else seemed interested, she chose to be the one to remember all of them. Her memory had always been her strength, had gained her excellent marks while studying so that she could become what she was now and finally put it to a perfect use.

In the beginning it had taken her longer, of course. Often, she had been crying alone late at night, only calming when desperately trying to recall names and jobs and families. She had had to learn how to memorise efficiently and ironically Sherlock, who had no respect for the dead whatsoever, had taught her a lot without him even noticing. Now she could compartmentalise all the information about a deceased within seconds, store them in their proper place and be sure she would never forget.

Her brain worked so fast no one ever caught her staring at the bodies longer than necessary. Yet they all lived on in her memory and that gave Molly some odd sort of comfort and pride. In her mind, no person would be reduced to the flesh of their bodies.
