„I don’t want to, Mummy! Why do I need one anyway?“ Sherlock almost stamped his foot, but caught himself in time. No need to upset Mummy if he wanted to win this argument.
“Sherlock, honey, I know you love your summer shirts, but autumn is coming now and it will be getting much colder. Be reasonable, you really need a warm jacket.”
“But they are ugly. And I look fat in them, just like Mycroft.”
“Sherlock!”
Sherlock lowered his head and murmured “Sorry, Mycroft”, but out of the corner of his eye tried to spy whether he had managed to annoy his brother. Mycroft, however, was nowhere to be seen. So Sherlock tried another one of his numerous (and cunning) arguments.
“I had a jacket last year, didn’t I? So why do I need a new one now?”
Mummy sighed. “You grow up very fast, Sherlock. We all wish last year’s jacket would still fit you.”
“Why can’t I have a jacket for grown-ups then? The ones for kids are despicable. I hate Walt Disney!” Sherlock thought about throwing a tantrum, but dismissed that idea quickly. Last time, Mummy had confiscated his chemistry kit for a week.
“This should suffice then.” Mycroft had re-appeared and was looking incredibly smug. He was holding a dark jacket - no, a long, dark coat. It looked sophisticated and adventurous at once and Sherlock fell in love instantaneously.
