Every Christmas Eve, there was one tradition Sarah insisted on. John always pretended to suffer through it, though in fact he enjoyed it almost as much. Last year, they had even invited Sherlock to participate, but to no avail - he had made it very clear that this had been the first and last time.
So this year, John and Sarah cuddled on the couch together only the two of them, turned down the light and started the film. Happy people hugged each other and Hugh Grant informed them of how love actually was all around. Sarah let out a happy sigh.
More than halfway through the film John’s phone gave a sudden buzz.
“You know I don’t care for sentimentality.”
It took John a while to understand that Sherlock’s message was somehow connected to Mark’s declaration of his unrequited love happening on-screen. His mobile buzzed again.
“But let me say (because it’s Christmas and I have been informed that at Christmas people finally tell the truth):”
“To me you are as perfect as any imperfect human can be.”
“And I will love you until - this is stupid.”
...
“Always.”
“John, are you crying?” Sarah sounded both worried and slightly amused.
John realised he was. Embarrassed he cleared his throat. “It’s just - I’ve never noticed how emotional this scene was before...”
