Too bad they won't let you edit a response. I looked it up and it looks like it stands for Last Icon Maker Standing. Seems to be an Icon makers competion put on by one or more groups where they give the Icon makers a number of icons to work with and they attempt to make the best Icon they can out of them. As usual that was my quick research, look but I'll do some more later later.

Honestly, that sounds like a truly cut-throat way to compete.... or possibly it becomes a popularity contest like so much else in life.

Either way, I appreciate the information and knowing this gives me a better understanding of how some of my favorite pieces of eye candy came into being.

LIMS stands for Last Icon Maker Standing. It's a competition where people will usually have an image and will have to make an icon of that image. Then folks will vote off their least favorite and the number of participants gets smaller until you're left with one who becomes the Last Icon Maker Standing. So whenever an icon maker is talking about an icon being something they made for LIMS, that's usually what it is.

Thanks very much for explaining that, Carter. It sounds like a pretty brutal competition to me, though. Now that I do understand the concept, I'll have a better appreciation for where some of these things come from.

Nah, it's not too brutal. You just have to be careful with certain people when they vote and that they don't get too cruel. Most of the time though, it's just constructive criticism and the really mean votes are usually not posted or accepted by mods. All in all, a LIMS contest is usually fun.
