I love this Eileen - she's so amazing and Slytherin and stubborn.

She makes herself barren, knowing she will be able to blame it on her new husband; after all, she has proven she can have a son.

This in particular struck me, as well as the ending where she is in despair. Incredible fic! Love it...

Thanks! This fic...the idea for it sprang into my head while listening to the Counting Crows song, and then the fic sort of took a life of its own... I had intended a happier ending, but you know, they always have their own ideas... I'm really glad you like it! ^_^

Thanks! I'm really fascinated by Eileen - I think she's probably the person who loved Severus that JKR was talking about in that one interview (though I also think that JKR is being too harsh on Severus, because come on, if Tobias WAS an abusive man, Eileen's love doesn't mean as much, y'know?) But yes, I do hope we see more of her in the last book!

This is wonderful. The last line truly packs a punch. I can really feel the despair of a mother who has tried so hard and feels that everything has come to nothing. I like the way Eileen grows in this as well, from her days at Hogwarts, to becoming a wife and mother, as well as her feelings about the choices in her life. I think you have painted a picture here of complex and multidimensional woman. It was a pleasure to read.

Thanks! I watched an episode of Foyle's War round about the time I was writing this, and because of that, it hit me how terribly difficult it must be to watch your child make choices, wanting to give him everything and protect him from all hurt, and still failing. I'm glad that worked for you.
