EaterSF is running a contest for the douchiest bar in SF. I've picked MatrixFillmore, which is everything wrong with the Marina in one jam-packed collar-popped space. The nomination thread is hysterical.

My favorite comment on the thread:

i feel like a clearer distinction should be made here: there's 1) hipsterier-than-thou mission douche, 2) grad student mixer douche, 3) san jose drunk driving douche, and 4) google/facebook employee happy hour douche. oh, and creepy old dude hanging out at a dive bar douche. i feel like we should have nominations for each of these categories.

It's funny because it's true! Marina bars are more #2, while Mission bars have #1 and #4 with regularity. #3s can be found in both places, along with my neighborhood, which also sports a lot of the creepy old dudes.

I *want* to like Forbidden Island but the fact that I'll never be able to enjoy the patio without getting a faceful of smoke keeps The Kona Club up above Forbidden Island even though it's much smaller.
