"I guess it just irks me when people can't be themselves. 80% of the people I know fall into one of 3 categories:

...2. The wannabe-artist who talks constantly about his/her latest photography/painting/poem, hoping that someone is listening and mistakes them for being deep."

i swear to god i'm not trying to be an asshole here. but after that comment and our little tiff i have to laugh everytime you mention doing art.

and at the same time i support your doing art whole heartedly and want you to do it. there's no such thing as perfect art.

i know there's a difference for me even - between art for clients and art for myself - therapeutic, experimental, or otherwise. i've been working on an "altered book" for a while. it basically consists of collage, painting and whatever else you want inside a book. like, from the library or used bookstore.

so much cooler than a sketchbook.

ok i'm pretty sure this comment will piss you off even if you don't say so so i'm going to stop talking.

goodnight!

Well, like I said before, art is a wonderful thing. But I also believe people can be total assholes about their art, which is what I was talking about. There is another kind of art, aside from "art for clients" and "art for oneself" and that is "art for everyone else". When I wrote that post, I was speaking of a few people I know who have probably never in their lives created something just for themselves. Even the most personal poetry was put on display as a trophy of some sort. I guess if you've never met someone like that, it's hard to describe. Basically, imagine the most pretentious, self-absorbed person ever, and then make them an "arteest" and you'll get what I mean.
But really, I don't consider me cutting out pieces of paper and gluing them together/on random shit in my house to be "art". It's just me being bored and restless. I think it's silly to compare that to someone who can actually draw or paint to take wonderful photographs.

*or take wonderful photographs. Not "to". That doesn't even make sense.
