Still reading books

I am now reading about half of my books electronically and half in physical form. This surprises me. I had wondered if, and what, I would think of the change.  I find I don't mind electronic reading at all, and at night, it's much easier for reading in bed. The book illuminates itself (which sounds far more profound than intended). The only ( Read more... )

For me, it's the Kindle, because it's all about the screen. I can read the Kindle for even longer than I can a real book. Any of the others are too close to a computer screen and as such tire out my eyes far too quickly.

Have you noticed that at all, or do you not read for long stretches?

The brightness quality on the iPad is infinitely adjustable, which I find useful. The screen quality doesn't bother me. It doesn't seem particularly different to me from either the Nook or the Kindle, but that may be just my own lack of sensitivity.

I don't tend to read more than four hours at a stretch. I used to when younger, but now, after about four or maybe five hours, I want to knit or get up and move or do something else. It amazes me to look back at the glorious uninterrupted hours of reading I did in my twenties. I just can't do that now. I have to switch to something else for a while and then go back.

I think for me it's the lack of any kind of back light that makes it easier on the eyes. I'm pretty sensitive to light, and it's gotten worse as I've gotten older.

I still read a lot by the average standard, but even I rarely go over 4-5 hours anymore. Although I do have my nose in a book whenever there's a waiting period.
