Over a month on a high fat diet

Jun 14, 2011 21:17

I've now been on my high fat diet for just over a month. Soon I'll be going in for my blood tests and monthly meeting to make sure I'm doing OK health-wise.  I think I am.  I feel OK.

Considering some of the side effects that are reported, I've done great. I've experienced real benefits. No more aches and pains. Whether that's from removing all ( Read more... )

I've been wondering how you were doing, Elizabeth. I'm glad to hear that you've taken so well to the new diet.

Can you add flavorings to the fat, to make it more interesting? Mustard, or vinegar, or soy sauce, maybe? (I'm not sure what flavorings are too high in carbs.)

Anyway, kudos to you for finding and sticking with this diet. A month is long enough to form strong new habits, which, I believe, are the key to every change you want to make in your life.

Can you eat at restaurants at all? Things like crab newberg, bisques, eggs with bacon, stuff like that? And if so, would you & Mark be interested in a jaunt to the east side sometime? :)

Good luck eating enough. (And how often do you get to say that to someone?) :)

Take care,

Melissa

Mustard is good, as is vinegar and soy sauce. Ketchup bad. Much sugar in ketchup. It's tricky, and I'm/we're learning still.

It's interesting that I can smell sugar -- just walking down the bread aisle I can smell the sugar in bread. It no longer smells good to me.

Restaurants are iffy. Many sauces have things in them that make them too high in carbs -- so I have to ask and chefs hate that. But most waiters are pretty good. What has been pretty good is knowing where I'm going in advance and being able to pick something out ahead of time. Just going someplace on the spur of the moment (unless it's a steak house -- always easy) is risky.

I was sort of thinking steak house. "Baked potato with sour cream and butter; hold the potato." :)

Maybe we can try to figure something out. It would be good to see you two again sometime.

We might even venture to West Seattle, if that's what it takes. ;)

I think that if you read the labels of stuff you buy in the grocery store, and keep your sugar at least to intentional sugar, that's a start. Because I have to read labels, I've been shocked at how much sugar -- in various forms -- is in everything! Even stuff I wouldn't have expected. And it's hidden in forms from corn syrup to sugar alcohols. Even if it's called glycol or malitol (basically, anything with a "tol" after it), it's a sugar alcohol and your body thinks it's sugar. Which is why I can't eat most "sugar-free" stuff either.
