Here's something outrageous.

Raquel Nelson, a 30-year old mother in Atlanta, was convicted of vehicular homicide of her own son last week, despite the fact that she does not own, and was not driving a carShe had just gotten off the bus after grocery shopping with her children at Wal-Mart and was attempting to cross a busy street to get to her apartment, rather than walk a half ( Read more... )

Dude, it's simple. If you wanna murder someone and get away with it, just run them over with your car. You'll be the LAST person held responsible. I know from personal experience--the asshole who mowed down and murdered my friends Amber and Dahlia back in 2000 only went to jail for a couple of months. They both died, he didn't stop his car, he made ridiculous claims in court as to why he didn't stop to help, and even had DUI's in the past, apparently. lol @ people believing the concept of justice in the legal system; it doesn't exist. People think it does because of what we see in Hollywood movies and TV shows. But it doesn't really.

Yup. If they can't prove you were boozing the law seems incapable of comprehending a vehicle being used as a weapon.

THANK YOU. I'm glad someone else realizes this. Murder is very easy to get away with if you use the right weapon. :P

(Um, obviously I do not agree with this, nor do I condone it in any way, shape, or form...I hope this is needless to say, but idiots on the internet who misread things are fucking EVERYWHERE, so I'm just making it clear that I'm NOT a bloodthirsty psycho or anything, lol)

Well, I think it's wrong and sort of right in a way. I don't think she should go to jail, but she did not do everything in her own power to protect herself or her children and that's where she went wrong. She has three kids, by now she should know they sometimes bolt.

Roads are not as badly designed here (there should have been a cross-walk at the bus stop or the bus stop moved in her case) but I DO walk extra to lights when I'm with my child, even if he's in a stroller, on my back or in my arms. I would not attempt to cross a highway with my child. But that's just me.

And the guy should have been in jail and kept there.

Oh, for sure. She's not blameless. But she's less to blame than the driver.

yes, she's still less to blame.

I agree with you. I don't even jaywalk when Bronwyn isn't with me because I don't want to set a bad example for other people's kids.

This is absolutely outrageous.

Such disparity in justice. It looks very suspicious, especially because it's in the south.

I hate to say this but I'd be really interested in the race of the car driver.

Looks like it's not a racial thing.

Relieved to see that much at least. Still it's a load of crap that she's facing a sentence worse than the driver.

*snicker* hello there fellow Farker LOL. That was my first thought too. I am not however surprised this is not a white upper class suburban mom.

What I don't get is how this bitch gets the flogging but people who leave their kids to be bbq'd like rotisserie chicken in their cars rarely get charged.

Maybe I'm a childfree bitch who hates to yield to other cars and pedestrians but that's not an intersection, she had no right to cross there and it is definitely partially her fault. I don't think the driver should have gotten off quite so easy, he should serve at least the 5 years, but she shouldn't be completely free of fault either.

Ugh. I know I say this a lot, but this is everything that's wrong with America. (And a bunch of interesting-looking links on this story that I haven't had time to read are here.)
