Storage.

I sent emails to a bunch of storage places asking for their prices. Their websites in general have the sizes of lockers/rooms that they offer, but not their prices.

Why do they do that? And why is it that all but one of them responded with an email telling me to call them to get prices? (These are rhetorical: I assume they believe they're more ( Read more... )

I can answer that because my boss has a similar strategy:

1- It's one way to remain competitive. Your competition can't check your prices this way.

2- If you talk to them, you can get deals. If they want your business, they'll bargain with you.

3- Prices change and can depend on the situation. (In this case, what you want to put in storage and maybe insurance.)

Ok - I can see this. But I also feel compelled to point out that the competition not only has access to email, but also to phones, and there's nothing stopping them from calling and asking for the prices that way. :p

I agree 100%!

But most won't! In the language school business there is pretty severe competition, and I've never heard of fake-calling to find out information! Usually, you find out via students who switch!

I think it's probably to stay in control of the market. If you knew exactly which place had the best deal, you would pick them. Then the other places would have to try to beat it and prices would go down.

I've had it for sooooo long and I think I really need to change it! The picture is probably 5 years old- maybe 6! The icon itself is not as old.. maybe 4? But it would be weird to think of my lj persona with a different appearance!

I use GoCube for my storage in Montréal. They deliver the cube to your apartment, you fill it, then they pick it up and store it in their facility. It is very convenient. I pay under 100 $ CAD per month for the storage. I don't recall the exact figure, and since i pay it in Euros, it fluctuates monthly. :P From personal experience, i recommend the company and the service.

We use Depot-Cle and are quite pleased with them. Bonus: Funky elevator. Double bonus: They list their prices on their website.

we use the Depotium in Lachine. The smallest size costs us $50/m and the first three months are half price. They allow you to switch lockers to keep the 3-month deal going for as long as you feel like moving all your shit every three months.
