(After the riot in Montreal North last month, I read an article that said that visible minorities accounted for less than 5% of the police force here, as compared to 15-20% in most other large-ish Canadian cities. I practically never see non-white, non-franco cops here.)
And I think that's not the greatest idea going. It's great that they're getting more women, but they need to partner young'uns with people who have experience.
Yup, I agree. And although I'm a woman and all for equality, and I know cops are well-trained and such, I still think I shouldn't be seeing two petite women in their mid-twenties in a squad car together. It seems like it's begging for trouble from assholes.
(Now the staunch feminists can jump on me)
Really, pair them up with a guy. Or with an older more experienced woman if you must.
I know a couple of female cops. A friend of mine's younger sister is one, and my FIL is former SQ.
Most of those mid 20something female cops will go on maternity leaves within 2 years of being on the force and get reassigned to desk work/non-urgent call work.

But yeah, I can't recall seeing very many black cops. More and more women, though.
