my old roommate from Czech-Republic always seemed super argumentative on the phone with her family who still live there... once i asked: "why do you always fight with your family on the phone?"... she was all "what are you talking about?!"

yeah, ottawa is really about the right distance away for me and these kinds of visits. it's nice to be able to do it when i want, but it's also nice that we don't live in the same city.

that's a possibility. he and dad have been getting *slightly* closer the past year or two. but it's also possible that it was just a tit-for-tat: my mom brought uncle jim a gift basket when he finished his own radiation a few months ago.
