There's a ballot question this year to repeal sections 20 through 23 of chapter 40B of the Massachusetts General Laws. The existing law sets up a system where a developer can make a request directly to a town's Zoning Board of Appeals to get a single master permit for building limited-income housing.

I can't call it "facts" or "data" and I don't know their actual political leanings, but the Pioneer Institute for Public Policy Research has a shiny PDF file detailing several issues and proposed solutions; for instance, the article claims 10 towns outright prohibit multi-family housing, and 9 more only allow it for seniors. Their suggestions do tend to match the sorts of things the anti-40B crew thinks would be better regulations and would spontaneously appear in the absence of 40B

I'm glad you read that. I was needing a better understanding of the issues with 2, but it seemed like exactly the sort of thing that would make my eyes glaze over if I tried to read any of it. Thanks.

I've never thought of myself as a negative person, but I'm voting no on all the initiatives this year. They're all short-sighted initiatives which get rid of useful things.
